John Cleese and Eric Idle @ The Golden Gate Theater - El Dingo - 11-07-2016

None of us are getting any younger.

When Dee Dee called me saying her niece had extra tickets to see Monty Python alumni John Cleese and Eric Idle my first words wre "Are they on tour?" . It turns out they are and I don't pay enough attention to local media to hear the promos. Anyway I said sure, knowing this may be the last time they would have the privilege of playing for me live.

The last time I recall seeing a performance at the Golden Gate Theater was a 1981 production of "Sweeney Todd" with Angela Lansbury. It was awesome.

Our seats were dead center of the mezzanine and I was stoked.

They took the stage at a respectable 7:30pm and regaled the crowd with stories, rare video clips and live sketches.

Eric Idle often strapped on a guitar and did live versions of "Eric the Half-Bee", "Sit on My Face", "That Fucking Song from 'Meaning of Life" and (of course) "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life".

I am so glad I got to see them live. They did not shy away from talking about Graham's death and Terry Jones dementia.

We grow old, we die.

All we have is who we touched while alive.

Monty Python made me a better person who can recognize silliness whether described by a flag, a map, or a cross.

There were no merch stands so all I have is a memory. What was I talking about again?

"No, dear, this is the dream; you're still in the cell!"

Book tour - Greg - 11-08-2016

John Cleese came through last year on his book tour and the Queen and I went to see him. Eric Idle did the interviewing. It was highly entertaining and we got autographed copies of Cleese's book for our troubles. No video clips though.
