Sisters - King Bob - 08-29-2016 My wife wanted to pay per view this, and I went along despite misgivings. Turns out I was wrong. We saw this weeks ago and I just realized that I'd never posted about it. It's pretty standard Fey/Poehler, but had some really funny bits. The story is simple: their parents are selling their childhood home, so they decide to throw a big party like they did in high school. Star-studded cast, and props to Bobby Moynihan for playing the unfunny fat guy trying to hard to be funny, which is what I always think when he's on SNL. The person who steals the show, though, has to be John Cena. I thought he was hilarious. FYI, his character's name - Pazuzu - is the name of a Sumerian demon/god. RE: Sisters - Drunk Monk - 12-08-2019 Agreed, especially about Moynihan. He nails his part here and for someone who was cast as the SNL schlub, but without the drug-fueled power of Belushi or Farley, he always fell flat for me. As rom-coms go, especially one packed with SNL alum, this one was alright. Fey and Poehler have such solid chemistry comically - toss Rudolph into the mix and it's all fun and games - crass as hell, but many SNLers do absurd caricature characters throughout, and this is what they do best. There was even some twinkle of heartfelt moments. I confess that I laughed harder at the ballerina music box scene than I should have. And Cena was awesome, especially with Fey flirting with him. No swordfights. Only DOOM recommended if you've got an itch for SNL bawdy rom-coms. |
