I relaunched my website - King Bob - 02-04-2015

I had a website years ago, but gave it up because hosting was expensive in those days. Now it has become much cheaper, so I relaunched it. I only have a few paintings up, but I did put up a lot of stuff from my sketchbooks going all the way back to the turn of the millenium. You might enjoy (or even recognize) some of that stuff. See it at http://www.bobrosestudio.com.

I saw the one on the opening page of your website and swore that I recognized it but couldn't think where. Then I came back and realized it's your avatar.

very cool - Drunk Monk - 02-04-2015

You'll be pleased to know that your skulls are still near my desk at work and your tree still hangs above my daughter's bed (it has survived several teenage girl wall redecoratings).

Great to hear from you. We must try to grab lunch soon and catch up.

Re: I relaunched my website - King Bob - 02-04-2015

Have to say that I am totally unsure what the skulls picture is. I know you had the Rhinoceros one, which was skull-ish. But I can't recall any skulls. (Is anyone surprised by that?) Plus there are more than a few paintings that I never photographed or did drawings for in my sketchbook which are out there somewhere.

Glad to know that your daughter likes that picture. I felt it was not a complete success, but it was powerful. (But then I am often surprised when I see pictures that I had not seen in a long time, and find them much better than I thought they were, so I am no judge of my own work.)

I have two of your skulls - Drunk Monk - 02-04-2015

Same composition, slightly different colors.

If memory serves, you gave one of them out to all of us at a DOOMXMAS, a small print in a black frame. I'm not sure when you gave me the other one.

Re: I relaunched my website - King Bob - 02-04-2015

Now I remember. That is a color print from a collage. I may revisit that method sometime.

Re: I relaunched my website - thatguy - 02-04-2015

KB! I have your uke. I feel bad in that I have not applied myself and have only learned how to play "If I only had a brain" and "If you want me to stay"...and I'm not very good at either. I would love to get together for lunch or something and return it to it's rightful owner.

Re: I relaunched my website - King Bob - 02-05-2015

I have to say that's a little off topic, but would love to see you. Did you solve the fret buzz on the uke? I think it might need professional help.

In the martial arts, 'uke' means recipient. - Drunk Monk - 02-05-2015

The uke is the the person who receives the techniques of the master. We tell them it's the highest honor for a student, but really it's the student who can fall well and endure the most pain. In a way, I've made my living as one. It took me only a year or two working here before I realized the 'honor' schtick was b.s.

As for your skulls, the small framed one is on my wall to the left of my PC above the photo of me, CF & LCF lion dancing on the Grateful Dead stage, which is above the photo of me at Bodhidharma's cave after midnight on the night I spent up there training in '95. The larger one reverses the colors (blue-grey skull, orange background). That hangs behind me over a cluttered file cabinet, slightly obscured by a stack of binders and a ninja suit at the moment.

Re: I relaunched my website - El Dingo - 02-06-2015

Nice site.

I still love the Alligator and Rhino you did for us.

Re: I relaunched my website - King Bob - 02-06-2015

Glad you reminded me of those - I had not thought of them in a long time!

I have been doing this long enough that there are a lot of pictures out there that I never photographed, or some that I don't know who has them. It is a little weird when I think about it.

The site is in progress - I need to add navigation. Also keep checking back since I am adding sketchbook images every couple of weeks, or you can follow me on instagram - @bobrosestudio

Now also on Zazzle - King Bob - 06-30-2016

At the prompting of my wife, I opened a shop on Zazzle: http://www.zazzle.com/bobrosestudio+gifts

I haven't got much up there yet.

Truthfully it makes me feel a little weird but I'm not sure why. I have never considered my work to have any broad appeal, so I kind of doubt this will make any money, but it did get me to learn more Adobe Illustrator (to convert scanned sketchbook images to vector graphics so they'd be cleaner and reproduce better).
