3D Apocalypse - El Dingo - 09-15-2014

So I watched "The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug" on the free HBO weekend and was really pissed off at the gratuitous 3D scenes. Bees flying around Bilbo, in-your-face weapons and slapstick acrobatics, cgi monster lunges.

It would have been semi-cool in a 3D iMAX theater but on a "normal" 42" HD screen it was distracting and irritating.

It's a shame that filmmakers are producing custom-made movies that will be appreciated by a tiny percentage of the population, for a tiny percentage of time then crippled for the rest of the world forever.

I now appreciate "Guardians of the Galaxy" for having zero 3D-centric scenes and concentrating on 2D composition for "normal" viewing".

My advice to studios; shoot 3D scenes for 3D versions, then omit or reshoot them for commercial release.

I bought the Blu-Ray version of Lord of the Rings, I will not be buying "The Hobbit".

the Apocalypse will be in 2D - Drunk Monk - 09-16-2014

Like I said before here (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3071) The Desolation of Tolkien. Sadly, I'm committed to seeing it through in the theaters. I read TH & LotR to T as a bedtime story so seeing them is a father/daughter thing. Maybe I can figure a Kung Fu angle to milk a review for a screener. Then again, I think I already milked that cow dry (see http://www.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/art ... ticle=1076)
