Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 04-07-2014

Everything is different since New York. Sick of that line in all it's iterations.

This is the bridge film between Avengers 1 and Avengers 2 and it is really well done. Yes, it is espionage thriller with heaps of Paranoia. It has great stunt set pieces. As continues to be our tradition, we did not see it in 3D. Still looked really good. The story kept me involved. I would avoid trailers and featurettes since a lot of the big scenes are ruined by those trailers.

For me, the weakest part of the whole film is Redford. After you've seen the movies, I will say more. But his character just didn't do it for me. Maybe it's all those years he has played Robert Redford, that makes it impossible to see him as anybody else.

Even the fights were good, not as choppy edited as the norm these days.

Hmm. Kinda like Glee. Lol

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier - The Queen - 04-07-2014

FWIW, I loved this movie. I can't wait to see what they're going to do on Agents of S.H.I.E.LD. on Tuesday. And I enjoyed Redford's creepy, but cool performance. Unlike most Marvel villains, he wasn't over-the-top; he wasn't a movie super villain, he was what I imagine Dick Cheney would be like if he was in charge of an asset like S.H.I.E.L.D. Real world evil vs. typical movie evil, so a bit creepier.

I'm tempted by Emily Vancamp - Drunk Monk - 04-08-2014

She's the star of my fav ninja soap opera, Revenge.

Do I have to see part 1 for this to make sense?

You want sense from an action movie? Is that what you said?

If you saw Avengers, you'll be fine. Even if you haven't, you'll be fine. Things go BOOM and SMASH and pieces fly everywhere.

i was just playin... - Drunk Monk - 04-08-2014

Well, just a little bit. I actually read a few Capt America comics when I was in elementary school. When I first moved back to CA, my parents bought me a new comic book every day when they were house hunting. I mostly got Sgt Rock and Sgt Fury, but I got some Capt. comics too. I read those so many times as a kid.

Isn't Scar Jo in this one too? I'm really looking forward to Lucy. Luc & Scar Jo? Bring it on!

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 04-09-2014

Saw CAII last night so that I would be up to date on Agents of SHIELD (which is lurking on my DVR, so no spoilers, please.

Did catch the Dr. Strange reference. Nice.

Agents of Shield ties in really nicely. Best Episode of the season. I hope it's not too late to save the show from being one and done.

I still have not watched that show - Drunk Monk - 04-09-2014

It's part of my constant effort to titrate my dosage of TV. Besides, I'm just not that into comic book superheroes anymore.

You're not missing much - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 04-09-2014

On the whole, the show is of medium interest so far. But the tie in with CA2 really brought it to a new level.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 04-09-2014

It is mostly a spy-show, and enjoyable.

Watched this again on the TV. Still very enjoyable. Actually I saw it on the plane to Dublin, too. Spurred me to see it again at home.

The beauty of the DVD was the extras, including an actually funny gag reel, which are usually terrible. Kudos to Marvel to putting out the extras on the rental DVD, something a lot of DVD's don't do.

Funny thing - I had not seen the beginning of this, only like the final half hour or so. I’m not sure why that happened. I must have forgotten about it and just stumbled across it being telecast or something. I don’t know.

It was enjoyable and put F&tWS in perspective. Also good to see the origin of Emily Vancamp’s character - made me want to watch Revenge again, of at least the first season when Sanada is her ninja master.
