The Cave (2005) - El Dingo - 10-23-2013

I watch a lot of cheesy 'B' movies. They give me a warm and fuzzy MQ6 nostalgia feeling. I can even smell fake butter on the popcorn.
I'm not even sure how this movie found its way into my Netflix queue.

It tells the story of a group of young spelunkers charting and exploring a network of undersea caves filled with evil.

I don't really want to talk about the movie. It was a fun popcorn-muncher that required little thought or dissection.

What I want to talk about is how a movie like this gets made.

It's filled with underwater sequences featuring boats, scuba gear, those hand-held propeller things that pull you around and various other marine tech. There are explosions blowing stunt men around , stunt men diving down waterfalls, stunt men rappelling around caverns, stunt men free-climbing 90' rock walls and tons of cameramen filming underwater sequences.

How the hell do you finance a straight to DVD movie with more SFX than Cloverfield?

I actually enjoyed this one. It has a suspenseful script and scares, but is very well made.

I'm thinking this one actually made it into theaters.

I'm sure they thought they were making a hit which means spend the money. No one sets out to make a bad film.

The Cave had an estimated $30 mill budget - Drunk Monk - 10-24-2013

It was distributed in America, UK and Czech Republic. And it made $33 mill worldwide.

I like Piper Perabo. She's in that spy show, Covert Affairs, but she first caught my eye in Beverly Hills Chihuahua.

So, you're the one who saw Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Are you waiting for the all Penis Pom Blues sequel?

I've seen the whole Beverly Hills Chihuahua trilogy - Drunk Monk - 10-25-2013

...now before you give poor DM the ol' Scapino blackball, remember that I have a teenage daughter that continually exposes me to a slice of pop culture I would have never engaged before.
