Diebenkorn & Bvlgari @ De Young - Drunk Monk - 09-30-2013

Diebenkorn:
This exhibit is of works during his Berkeley years. I find Diebenkorn a little overrated. I don't care for his choice of colors for his abstracts. Very bland. I do respect his large landscapes, especially the ones that capture our unique coastal light. There's this particular one of suburbs on a hill that just takes me back to Daly City. And he had one of Santa Cruz, but none of us could recognize where that might have been.

Bvlgari:
Serious bling. Diamonds in the flesh. And rubies. And sapphires. And lots of other shiny rocks. Gold. Platinum. Grotesquely gaudy. I'm told someone on the board is way into Bvlgari. The displays are really cool. Some have these projected animation effects. You really don't need much to show off jewels, just good lighting. T just did a class on blood diamonds, so she adopted an appropriate stance when viewing this.

It's too bad none of us lived in Daly City . . .
