Rise of the Guardians - Drunk Monk - 11-26-2012 It's the Avengers with fairytale creatures. Seriously. Lots of recycled effects, especially the Patronus from HP. The creation myth of Jack Frost waking in an frozen lake provided a great 3D opening, reminiscent of Painted Skin 2. There's some amusing psychedelic imagery - you can see Del Toro's hand in this quite clearly - but it never goes over-the-top and that is where it falters. There IS a sword fight. Santa wields double cutlasses. There's a short fight between Santa, the Easter Bunny (boomerangs), Jack Frost (staff) and the Bogeyman (weird axe/scythe). Where this ultimately failed was it had no Bollywood number. T liked it tho. She likes almost everything, as long as it's not too historical. PPFY should see this because there are a lot of yetis. PPFY needs to know how his kind are being represented in pop culture. It's a little stereotypical, but not inaccurate. Just swap the toys for foils and it would be spot on to my reckoning. There should have been more yetis. They were the best part of the film. |
