Dosa Fillmore - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 11-07-2011 No, not Millard Fillmore's Indian niece. The original Dosa is on Valencia St and was/is pretty trendy. When they opened several years ago, Barbara & I tried it a couple of times and pronounced it "meh". That was just having the dosas (essentially a burrito filled with potatoes and stuff). Fast forward to last night, and Dosa on Fillmore. Several friends/acquaintances recommended it, and after close questioning (most of them thought the dosas were boring, but they raved about the other food) we decided to give it a try. Decor: Hip, huge, happening. Mid-century design, really big space, very well done. Cloth napkins. Kinda fancy. Service: Polite, efficient. Server was informed, engaging, and not obtrusive. Definitely added to our enjoyment of the meal. Food: Really, really good. Ingredients were all as local as could be, sustainable, yadda, yadda, which means more flava. Complex flavors, each dish distinct from the other, heat was never too hot, always at an enjoyable level. Every dish was a winner. I had a sampler and Miss B had a chana masala with some coconut rice on the side. Had some fruit juice mix drinks (non-alcoholic) that were spectacular, a full bar with a good whisky selection and a fine beer list. |
