HONGKONG: Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen will appear alongside actress Cecilia Cheung in a Hong Kong adaptation of 2005 Hollywood action thriller "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" titled "Assassin Couple", reported Hong Kong media.
The New Asia Entertainment Group (AEG) announced Thursday that this adaptation will feature a completely different storyline from "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", though there are still some similarities.
The film will see Yen and Cheung play a couple skilled in martial arts and gunplay who try to deal with the love-hate relationship they share at home, even as they go about their lives as professional killers.
Although Yen and Cheung had both previously said they would like to take a break from film to spend time with their families, the fat pay cheque AEG waved before them had apparently changed their minds.
AEG said that Yen will take home 30 million yuan (S$5.6 million) for accepting the role while Cheung 's pay cheque is valued at 15 million yuan (S$2.8 million).
Their combined fees took up almost half the film's 100 million yuan (S$18.7 million) budget.
Filming for "Assassin Couple" is scheduled to begin in March next year.

If you aren't going to follow the plot lines of Mr and Mrs Smith why even say it's like Mr and Mrs Smith?

For the memoir, I'm revisiting all the old movies. My ears perked up when I heard there was an uncut version of this film that had tons of outtakes and a behind the scenes documentary. Maybe I could see the sets I built but didn't make it into the movie. So, I bought.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith is the film that continues to deliver disappointment even at this late date. The behind the scenes documentary was horrible. So dull. So long winded. If you wanted to watch them break down a scene ad-infinitum this is the documentary for you. I did get to see the soul of the DP die just a little when director Doug Liman told him he wanted to do a completely different set-up than the set-up they had just done. I could hear it in his voice when the DP "You want to a different set-up that will cost us half a day? I felt his pain.
The outtakes were completely useless except for a few brief seconds where I finally saw the gattling gun mounted on the ATV racing through the Home Store. I hope to see more but it didn't come up. There was also a bit of redemption in the photo galleries where I saw the set of the collapsed freeway and the truck hanging off the side. This was a set I built and was never filmed.
I'll investigate some more. I'll be disappointed some more.

Here on DOOM, you've given us some behind-the-scenes commentary on actors, directors, set-building foremen, etc., showing their jerk sides or cluelessness. How are you handling that in the book? I think it's some of the most interesting stuff, but it could also be prickly.
