Stevie Nicks & Rod Stewart @ Oracle 4/20/11 - Drunk Monk - 04-21-2011 I know what you're thinking. Stevie for 420? Okay, maybe you're not thinking that. You all know Stevie was my first. I've followed her career ever since. I worked the pit for her at Cal Expo, got with in a few feet and made significant eye contact. I've watched her rise and fall and always try to check in with her when she comes around. She's been clean and sober for the last 15 years, which surely saved her life, as she's a serious casualty of the coke years. Her face is frozen in a pout. Her nose sounds slightly clogged. She waddles around now in a sad echo of how she used to dance about. She reminds me that I'm nearing the half century mark. It's sad for me and a little bittersweet, surely the way she likes it. A friend had a seat on the floor so I got to hear the end of Gold Dust Woman, some new tune, a piano solo, and Rhiannon. That was very nostalgic and made my night. As for Rod, I saw him once before at Shoreline in the early '90s I think. It was a cougar fest, before we even used term. Women tossing their underwear on the stage - kinda freaked me out back then. It's still a cougar fest, now an old cougar fest. I've never got Rod. I was busting on Janet Jackson for being Vegas campy, but Rod takes the cake. I couldn't make it through a whole song. Other RM vols were into it, so I got a taste, winced, and retreated to RM to let the others enjoy. I caught Do You Think I'm Sexy towards the end, and couldn't get that damn tune out of my head this morning until I blasted some mighty Zep on the commute to work. Xena rocks! - Drunk Monk - 04-22-2011 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xc2hjy_lucy-lawless_shortfilms Re: Stevie Nicks & Rod Stewart @ Oracle 4/20/11 - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 04-22-2011 I heard a concert broadcast about a decade ago of Rod. All I kept thinking was here comes a high note and oh my god he wasn't all that close when it came. I can't imagine what he's like now. Nor do I want to find out. Although he was enjoyable on the Pierce Morgan show not too long ago. Seems he has an affinity for toy trains. And wouldn't you love to love her? - Drunk Monk - 04-23-2011 A footnote - I always dig through my closet o CDs to prep for my upcoming shows. I didn't have any Janet. I have most of my Fleetwood Mac, and a lot of Zep. I traded back all my old Stevie CDs some years ago. I didn't even rip them them first - too much bother. I generally don't rip stuff I'm trading. Once it gets to trade point, I'm no longer interested, except for pre-show review. I should eBay my old Stevie photos, which are probably still in storage at my folk's home. Re: Stevie Nicks & Rod Stewart @ Oracle 4/20/11 - thatguy - 04-23-2011 KFJC did a program last year during their Mayhem fund raiser called "Rod Stewart Didn't Always Suck, I Swear": Quote:Rod Stewart Didn?t Always Suck, I Swear --tg |
