Dragonhouse @ Kezar - Drunk Monk - 03-14-2011

Dragonhouse 5 @ Kezar 3/5/11

Sounds like a great title for a kung fu flick, yes?

Dragonhouse 5 is amateur MMA.  The promoter is a kung fu master that's been trying to get me out to this.  I finally made it and it was a lot of fun.  If you've never seen live MMA, this is a good venue because it's cheap, it's doesn't sell out (in fact, there's plenty of space) and it's got great action.  CA amateur MMA goes 3 rds x 2 min, which favors strikers over grapplers as it takes more time to position in grappling.  Also, as it's shorter then pro (which is 3 x 5, 5 x 5 for belts typically) the fighters don't need to pace themselves.  Quite the opposite, they go all out as fast and furious as possible.

The next one is May 26th, but that might be too close to TCKFMCIII.  We'll see.

DragonHouse Zhong Luo cage fight series 14

Sifu Luo gifted me 3 ringside tix so I grabbed my old KF bro Keith and my iaido sensei Merek and we went. It was a great night of fights. Not a dull match on the card. I lost count of the amateur fights - there was one belt match. And there were 3 pro fights. A wide array of matches but only 1 female bout. Strikers, kickers,, grapplers, a few choke outs, no KOs, one ankle break. A great show and a fun night. So grateful to be able to watch a fight leisurely, not through the lens of a camera struggling to get a few good pix.

The DJ was killing me. The walk in music was diverse and always a tiny tell about the fighter. Threefold was random pop stuff. Quite a contrast from last nights stripper DJ.
