The Rose Bowl Parade - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 12-23-2009

Okay, I am officially flabbergasted. My nephew, who has now been alive for seventeen years, has never heard of the Rose Bowl parade. How do I respond to that? I thought everyone knew about the parade. How do you avoid it if you want to watch television early on New Years Day? I'll just sit here and continue to shake my head.

My boss didn't know either - Drunk Monk - 12-23-2009

But then, she always asks what day it is when there is a large calendar on almost every wall in our office and several on some walls, not to mention the one on her computer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Gigi didn't grow up in California, did she? She gets a pass for that.

As for the whole calendar thing, I've got no answer.

Re: The Rose Bowl Parade - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 12-24-2009

When we were young, we only had a few channels to watch; your nephew has always had a bazzillion choices for viewing and a lame parade (redundant description) is easy to ignore. He doesn't spend any time in Pasadena, either. He gets a pass and you get an AARP "Codger Card".

Speak up, sonny, I can't hear you. And get off my lawn. No passes!!

And here I was, thinking I was the only one who thought parades were lame. Yet another reason why I love my Yeti.

Parades rock! - Drunk Monk - 12-28-2009

You guys take it from the wrong perspective. Parades aren't fun to watch. They're fun to be in. Only lame people watch them. Cool people are in them.

Re: The Rose Bowl Parade - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 12-28-2009

Always better to be a participant than a spectator. Which is why I need to be on the FLOAT!!!

I'm hoping for ya... - Drunk Monk - 12-28-2009

...I'm hoping you kick that field goal straight through the goal posts.

Naaa. I was in one once and that was lame, too. What is the point of waving to lame people?

Now, in this interesting book I'm reading, I read about a sort of reverse parade that might have been okay -- one in which a hundred buses carried the observers along a route where performers did their thing on the side of the road. That might be a tad more engaging.

It doesn't work unless Lucy brings the football. And at this point the football is sadly missing.

I've been in too many parades - Drunk Monk - 12-28-2009

I was in the Chinese New Year parade once. That was insane. I was in several Dead show parades. That was even insaner. And then there was that reverse parade, which was so insane that I made a DVD of it.

What parade were you in?

Re: The Rose Bowl Parade - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 12-28-2009

I was in two Cupertino parades down Steven's Creek Blvd. One was as an Indian Guide.

Niles North High School Homecoming, 1980.

I've actually been in many CNY parades - Drunk Monk - 12-29-2009

I was in the S.F. one once. That was the totally insane one. I got to change into my costume on Market street, which allowed me to drop trou there, something few can claim legally. I was in several smaller ones, like Mtn View's CNY parade, back in my lion dancing days.

I've been in a few others too, like athletics entry parades.

I've been in a lot of parades...
