Shonen Knife @ the Rickshaw Stop 10/29 - thatguy - 11-01-2009 I took myself out for my birthday. Took me awhile to find the Rickshaw Stop. It's a small club and was pretty empty. The crowd that was there seemed like a lot of art school students. First up: Kepi Ghoulie, former leader of the Groovy Ghoolies. Four-piece: Guitar, Drums, Bass, and Keyboard. They were ok. They were pretty tight and upbeat, good vocals, but their sound was lacking something. Also, the keyboards got pretty tiresome after a few songs. Next up: Ty Segall. Never heard of him. Three piece: Drum, Bass, Guitar. Seemed like the first crowd left and a different crowd came in. I think the mic was clipping. Sound was kinda bad, but I really like their energy. I'd check them out again. Here's a video of his: Finally, Shonen Knife: If the Ramones were a 3 piece Japanese girl band... I tried to take video with my phone and the audio's crap. The drummer looks like she's about 14. She plays great though! Here's a few clips from the next nights show at the Blank Club in San Jose: --tg amazing that they still look so young - Drunk Monk - 11-02-2009 i met them all years ago at a lollapalooza. they were really cute. |
