Into the Land of Bones by Frank Holt - King Bob - 08-31-2009 This is a book about Alexander the Great's campaigns in Afghanistan, and was released shortly after the US got involved there. Not only is it interesting for the ancient history, but he brings in a lot of info about the English there in the 19th century, as well as the Soviets in the 1980s. Scholarly (copiously footnoted) but also reads well and moves along at a good pace. It's about Josiah Harlan who was the inspiration for Kipling's book. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josiah_Harlan --tg Re: Into the Land of Bones by Frank Holt - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 09-01-2009 Did they mention Billy Fish, Infantryman? |
