Inner Senses by Chi-Leung Law (Hong Kong -- 2002) - cranefly - 08-14-2009 This was the most depressing movie I've ever seen. A young woman is seeing ghosts. A brilliant psychiatrist/psychologist who doesn't believe in ghosts (everything is in the mind) treats her. In the process, they fall in love, and the doctor himself begins to see ghosts. While at first glance this seems to be wallowing in the footsteps of Sixth Sense ("I see dead people"), in fact it's a very good psychological thriller. What makes it so depressing is that it stars Leslie Cheung in his final role. You get to see him tottering on the edge of a rooftop, on the point of suicide, and you know that within the year he'll actually make that jump -- from the 24th floor of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong. What an amazing career Leslie Cheung had. Recommended, but with this very grim aspect... |
