Brent Weeks "Shadow Warrior" Trilogy - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 06-18-2009 Pretty darn entertaining stuff. Definitely in keeping with the new "Noir Sword and Sorcery", it is pretty dark, but not as brilliant (and yes, I did say "brilliant") as Joe Abercrombie, but in the same vein. The Yeti sez "Check 'em out!" ED, if you were thinking that maybe you wanted something toothy but ultimately redemptive...stay away from Ambercrombie but go with Weeks. Re: Brent Weeks "Shadow Warrior" Trilogy - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 07-27-2009 It's odd that I saw this review after I picked the book up. Is the wavelength still that strong? Re: Brent Weeks "Shadow Warrior" Trilogy - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 07-28-2009 What am I thinking now? Re: Brent Weeks "Shadow Warrior" Trilogy - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 07-28-2009 Time for meat? Re: Meat - The Queen - 07-29-2009 I know that's what I've been dreaming about!!! Re: Brent Weeks "Shadow Warrior" Trilogy - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 07-30-2009 Uncanny! How does he do it?! That's what I was thinking! Uh, Miss The Queen, um...are you speaking literally or metaphorically? Re: Brent Weeks "Shadow Warrior" Trilogy - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 07-30-2009 I was hoping to let that comment slide . . . . Re: Brent Weeks "Shadow Warrior" Trilogy - The Queen - 07-30-2009 I should just leave that up to your imagination, shouldn't I? mt084 But I was thinking Langtry's. Or the Doctor's. Or Picanha. Re: Brent Weeks "Shadow Warrior" Trilogy - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 07-30-2009 Phew! Gorilla Bar-B-cue has got my interest. I got a Hankerin' for some brisket or some ribs. Meanwhile, over at Schmidt's: It's all about the Fresh Duck Sausage and the Smoked Wild Boar Sausage. And the "Slaughter Plate". Maybe I shouldn't have followed my previous questions with "sausage" comments. Re: Brent Weeks "Shadow Warrior" Trilogy - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 07-30-2009 Still letting it go . . . . Although, you can join Kevin Smith for Sausage Fest up in Toronto, Canada. Re: Brent Weeks "Shadow Warrior" Trilogy - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 07-31-2009 I'd rather join the Swedish Bikini Team for a "sausage-fest" in Canada. Back on Thread - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 08-04-2009 Maeve gives the first book in the trilogy two paws up. She thought it was delicious. Note to self: Take the books off the damn coffee table.
MMMM, third book good, too - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 08-11-2009 Stupid dog. Overall, the books were okay. I think they got a little too melodramatic, especially the love story between Kylar and Durzo. No wonder they call them wet boys with all that weeping. I did like the overall arc of the stories especially Dorian's story. I just think the writing could be a little more polished. Subtlety would have helped, too. I'm also guessing we haven't seen the last of these characters. Re: Brent Weeks "Shadow Warrior" Trilogy - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 08-12-2009 I'll be interested to see if he gains depth as he progresses in his writing. You want "subtlety"? Read Lit-Rich-Chure not genre-fiction. |
