The Reader - Drunk Monk - 04-22-2009

Long winded but some nice literary allusions and a lot of nekkid Kate in the first half hour. Great performances by the three leads. The kid (young Voldemort w/nose) is really good and would have made a good Tom Riddle. A lot of German guilt processing. When is Kate going to make a happy movie?

Finding Neverland.

Titanic? That had a happy, up-beat ending.

Sorry, I meant next - Drunk Monk - 04-23-2009

I was thinking more of Revolutionary Road then her past stuff. Holy Smoke was very happy. Best Kate film ever.

This film sat on the kitchen table for two months. I think it came in before I went to Ireland. The conjunction of will to see it and opportunity finally came through yesterday. I knew it was going to be a downer and it was.

My big question to take away from the film was what are we supposed to learn? Are the Germans unable to learn from their past. Hannah had a chance to save the Jews in that Church but didn't. Voldemort had a chance to save Hannah, but didn't. Is it better to just live with the guilt and have it ruin your life than to do the right thing? I need the cliff notes. And why did Hannah want to have an affair with a 15 year old?
