Little Children - cranefly - 01-07-2009

starring Kate Winslet.

I expected this to focus tightly on WInslet, but there were several significant characters and lots of subplots, making for an ensemble performance.
A very good movie where you never can quite pin down who is good and who is bad, as each changing circumstance illuminates another side of each character.
Complex character studies with great performances, especially from Winslet, and not entirely the downer I had been led to believe it would be.

I questioned the credibility of a couple scenes near the end, where people seemed forced to behave in ways that advanced the plot; but the overall emotional power of the film made it easy to overlook them.

I haven't read any scholarly reviews, but would guess that the title has a greater meaning -- that there is no magic age when we become adults; rather, we remain forever children at heart, ever struggling to balance our selfish desires with our responsibilities.

A very good movie.
