Sweeney Todd (Tim Burton's) - thatguy - 09-29-2008

Ok...I am sure there was discussion about Sweeney Todd on the forum. About it being a great xmas movie: lot's of pretty red. Either the search on the forum sucks, my memory fails me, or the previous posts disappeared into the ether.

In any case, I saw the stage production of Sweeney Todd with Angela Lansbury on Cinemax when I was a kid. I liked it. Fun, mildly disturbing, good music. Clever set design...

For Burton's film revision: This came out around Christmas?

It was long. It was dull. The singing was dull--Dull, DULL, DULL! I didn't recognize any songs from the original musical. Oh, and the gory parts were gory...extremely gory. :axe: Dull and gory. What more could you ask for?

I don't usually see movies where I wonder how much longer...

Re: Sweeney Todd (Tim Burton's) - The Queen - 09-29-2008

You didn't even point out how bad the singing was of the strange lyrics that weren't in the play, nor all the songs and lyrics they cut.... I think the only people who could possibly have enjoyed that film are people who didn't see it in the theater. I saw Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury. And a cast that could sing.

Actually, I take that back. Greg didn't see it in the theater and he hated it too. Maybe not quite as much as I did.

Re: Sweeney Todd (Tim Burton's) - El Dingo - 10-01-2008

I saw the Angela Lansbury production at the Golden Gate in S.F. and was blown away. I still have the program somewhere. I immediately ran out and bought the dounle LP soundtrack and listened to it endlessly.

I recently downloaded the Burton soundtrack and enjoy it quite a bit.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but I like most of Tim's work and will cut him a lot of slack. It can't be as bad as 'The Corpse Bride'.
