I'm not there - Drunk Monk - 05-11-2008 I'm a fan of Dylan and this certainly adds to the Dylan mystique. Not sure why they bothered to change the names. If you don't know anything about Dylan's life, this film is a total mess. I've read a few biographies, even read Tarantula, but I still got lost at points. Blanchette, Bale and Ledger turn good performances. The whole 6 people play Dylan was copped from Bunuel's Obscure Object of Desire, but it worked well given the overall message of the film. Gere's part was horrible and ruined it. That should have been totally cut out. It was surreal enough without ostriches and giraffes. Town of Riddle - just silly. For a moment, it reminded me of Across the Universe, but I'd only recommend engaging this if you're a fan of Dylan and know a little about his life. Re: I'm not there - thatguy - 01-01-2009 I got totally lost at the Richard Gere part. I'm not up on my Dylan trivia, but I knew enough to follow along. David Cross as Alan Ginsberg...that was interesting. --tg |
