There is no way on earth that you can convince me that there are not Yetis named 'Asshole'. Several Yetis.
Actually, we've been thinking 'Akira'. One of Stacy's clients thought 'Yuki' but that's a girl's name. Then we went through some Japanese names and 'Akira' popped. We're also contemplating bear names like 'Yogi' because he's quite bear cub like.
So we got a mutt. He just arrived at the shelter the day from the central valley prior with two siblings. He's smaller than we wanted, but he's about 8 weeks, so a puppy. The shelter people guessed that he's part shepherd and a part...
...wait for it...
...pom. We can clearly see both. All I can say is if this is true, on his pom side, he's got one bad ass dad or one tough mama. We'll do one of those dog dna tests when we have more money. As is, he's cost us over half a $K, but some of that will be refunded when we complete his shots, fixing and chipping.
The shelter was a mess when we arrived. We had secured an appointment months ago and they were slammed. Their printer broke. It was hot and humid. We waited an extra hour. Like Jingles, he was the first dog we saw. He was just too cute, goofy and clumsy in that puppy way, a thick floofy coat, a black snout and empathetic eyes. All members of the household had to be present - such an ordeal to get a dog nowadays. I swear there was more paperwork than when we had Tara. But we got him.
Because of scheduling, Stacy saw some private clients after so I hung out with puppers for about 4+ hours. He hasn't had all his shot so it's not recommended that he go outside too much, so mostly we just hung out in the back seat of the CRV and bonded. He's curious, teething and adventurous. He's a bit chubbier than Jingles right now, with subby puppy legs and a small tail. He falls over a lot and likes to sleep on his back. Good size paws. The shelter people guessed he might grow to 30-40 lbs. It's smaller than Stacy wanted because she wanted a dog that can hike 10 milers, but it's perfect for me and our tiny bungalow.
He slept through last night well enough. Today he was very playful, exploring our yard, playing with his new toys and biting the crap out of me. He seems quite happy and adjusted already, although not housebroken (our carpet is thrashed already so that's no big).
I'm dying to take him to the beach, but he won't be done with his shots until August.
As much as a hassle as it is, it's good to have a little one in the home again.

At one point, Stacy thought an eskimo name would fit. No idea where that came from. The only eskimo name I know is Quinn.

We've decided on Yuki, which can be either a male or female name. It means 'happiness' or 'snow'. We almost went with Kuma, which means 'bear' but that only lasted a day until we came back to Yuki. I'm tempted to think of it as a derivation of Yukio (snow boy) as in Yukio Mishima, but he's got nothing in common with Mishima.
Stacy has got him to sit for treats already. He's still biting us like crazy and puppy teeth are sharp. We've found some essential oils like peppermint and tea tree quells the biting. Working on that housebreaking. He poops right after he eats so it's meals then walkies. He pees a lot, not very much, but a lot. We decided to keep him in the kitchen and north chamber (and the backyard pen) until he gets a better handle on the peeing.
He loves tug of war. I've made him a knotted rope and we've been playing a lot. It's very fun because he's puppy clumsy, but he's learning quick.

Stacy took Yuki for his first bath today. We have a do-it-yourself dog wash nearby and she went there to pick up dog shampoo. He didn't like it. And he's still odoriferous but in a much more pleasant way.
One of his rawhide chew sticks really stinks tho... of course, it's his favorite one.
