RE: Sheltering in Place - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 02-16-2021 The Science ain’t gonna science itself, you know. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 02-17-2021 339: YMAA & KFM. Mom chores. Go home. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 02-18-2021 340: Big day today. All four jobs want something. First, I’ve got an immortal panel with SupChina, which is a major azn news outlet. I’m only in a small part, like a 5 min bit, but I must be on deck for it for over an hour. They asked me to show my ‘sword sexiness’ which will likely put most of you off. Also have my weekly ymaa Pub Telemeeting but they are deep in the freeze and having web connectivity issues. Plus miscellaneous prep for KFM & Den (but not urgent). RE: Sheltering in Place - Greg - 02-18-2021 Is that a question? Like 'sup China? RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 02-18-2021 I think so. https://supchina.com RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 02-19-2021 341: Another day of all 4 jobs wanting something. 2 articles to do over the weekend. Happy Friday... RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 02-20-2021 342: Kung Fu - I’ve got a new sword I’ve been meaning to try and have been waiting for dry weather. I know I said I was going to take Saturday’s off but I have a backlog of tasks. We’ll see how the day goes... RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 02-21-2021 343: Writing. Still waiting for a transcription of Friday’s interview. I’m going to have to slam that piece when it comes in. Chipping on a ymaa piece that’s just not catching fire yet. And laundry. Sunday’s are laundry days. RE: Sheltering in Place - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 02-21-2021 Tell us about the new sword, please. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 02-22-2021 344: YMAA call first thing and my annual blood draw after lunch. My transcript came in so I need to jump on that. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 02-23-2021 (02-21-2021, 10:52 AM)Dr. Ivor Yeti Wrote: Tell us about the new sword, please. Forgot to respond. Sorry. It’s a replica ancient jian with a pattern-welded blade. The furniture mimics a bronze sword guard and pommel, a nice design with a three-legged wine cup motif, but cast from some sort of pot metal it seems. The handle is black wood, lathe turned, and would’ve been wrapped in cord but none of those survived on the antiques so this is often left bare by replica makers. The blade is nice - two deep fullers that show off the temper pattern. It’s sharp. I’ve had it for months and been waiting for a nice day when the academy was reopened to give it a swing. It handles well with most of the weight in the hand, although the perfectly round handle doesn’t provide a great purchase and with the weight, it wore out my grip after my Shaolin & Taiyu forms. It really needs a cord wrap. It would make a nice cutter I think. It was relegated to the sale table at TC because of some cosmetic flaws (scabbard glue leak and a broken display box). Ordinarily it would’ve gone to the annual parking lot sale but that didn’t happen. When I saw it on the table, I asked and it was just handed to me. This is one of the job perks I really miss not being in the TC office. Not being practitioners, they regularly tossed out items for minor flaws or samples they didn’t understand and I got a lot of those. They still take care of me if I ask. When the latest shipment of feiyue shoes came in, they let me know and gave me a pair (can always use shoes) but that was partly due to the timing of me dropping by. Who knows what else they’re dumping? I’ve pulled so many treasures out of their trash bins. 345: Must catch up on ymaa tasks and head over to my mom’s. She’ll need groceries. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 02-24-2021 346: Let's see now...There's an assortment of niggling YMAA tasks, maybe some KFM too if I get there. I need to finish some chores for my mom and get home. That's it. That's all I got today. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 02-25-2021 347: this morning started with a 7am ymaa q4 report, a 3.5 hour telemeeting. Then there was a lot of follow up work plus some Immortal/KFM crossover. Long day mostly because it started so early RE: Sheltering in Place - King Bob - 02-25-2021 I discovered a cat under the house. Heard it meowing loudly and went outside to see, and realized it was coming from under the kitchen. Went down there and saw it way in the corner. Naturally it was in the corner farthest from the entrance. It took three expeditions to get it out because it kept going back and forth between the distant corners, but it finally headed toward the door. (I called animal control after my first failure, and they told me that they won't go under a dwelling.) I closed the door in case it was outside nearby and did a final sweep and saw nothing. Then I took a walk and saw a cat down the street that I swear was the same one, and it was one I haven't seen before. We heard a meow yesterday but thought it was outside. It must have been under there for three or four days at least; the door fell open about then. There are no holes it could have gotten in through. There's not much clearance down there, and I had to crawl and wriggle under the ducting. I'm tired and kind of beat up. Fortunately I am apparently not claustrophobic. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 02-26-2021 I remember crawling under the house with my dad. He was fixing something and I must’ve been in my early teens. Now I can’t imagine crawling under there. 348: typical work day - mostly ymaa. |
