Okay. I whined a lot about the unfairness of my blood sugar. Well, I took my A1C blood test this week at Kaiser and received the lowest number I have had in four years. Low numbers are good numbers.
I am well chuffed.

My A1C went up. I reduced it last year, but now it's higher than ever. I guess I got cocky. I should test more regularly but I've gotten lazy about that.

Oh, doctors you are so cruel. One of the keys, for me, to lowering my blood sugar is losing weight. Naturally, one of the medicines I am on, as I was told today, makes me hungry and causes me to gain weight. Bastards.
I also learned that my eye drops for my glaucoma have a beta blocker which gives me an abnormally slow heart rate. I thought my heart rate was so slow because of all my walking. My doctor told me I'm not that good of an athlete.
I also get to wear one of those full time blood sugar monitors from now on. My journey to becoming a cyborg starts with a single step.

My doctor prescribed for me a wearable puck to monitor my blood sugar. The kit arrived while I was gone so I just started using it. I had some trouble syncing it with my iPhone so I"m using the diabetes puck with the monitor that came with the package. First off, no one told me there would be a needle on the base of the puck that penetrates my flesh when I attach it. The puck lasts 14 days before I swap it out for a new puck.
The monitor is very loud and because my blood sugar is a bit erratic the monitor goes off all the time. For instance the first night, it woke The Queen and I twice as my blood sugar dropped way below the normal range. Yay!? I guess. Thanks for telling me something I was probably going to sleep through and only be aware of because I sweated through my t-shirt. The alarm sounds when I am out of the range of the monitor. Not yay. I don't want to have to carry that thing with me all the time. I guess the point is though, to be constantly aware of my sugar levels, much more so than my twice daily finger sticks.
These are all minor things that I can deal with if it makes my health better. Yesterday, I received the bill. The grand total for the pucks, applicator and monitor was $3700. That is a three month supply. However, the bill is odd. It shows Kaiser paid about $400. The company wants me to pay $42. Fine. Who makes up the remaining $3200? If my $42 is part of an installment plan, I will be very quickly going back to finger sticks. I am not paying $1000 a month just to test my sugar.
One final conundrum. The product is called the FreeStyle Libre. If my spanish is correct, doesn't that mean the product is called the FreeStyle Free?
