Don’t make me ask other family members…! Hoping for and wishing you the best. RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 06-30-2022 My shoulder/back pain became unbearable so Stacy took me to urgent care in Scotts Valley. They were worried because I had left arm pain and recommended me to go to the ER. Unfortunately the closest big Kaiser er is San Jose. I could’ve gone to Dominican but I’d be out of the system and that could get complicated. So Stacy took me to SJ where the doc palpated my back and decided it was muscular like I had originally surmised, just extreme. He gave me a shot of toradol, a lidocaine patch and some acetaminophen and sent me on my way. I’m to schedule an MRI soon as a precautionary but given the location, the doc felt it probably wasnt a spinal issue. I’m home now and feel ok (good ol toradol). I got a bag of Rx drugs that should last me for a while. It all will probably cost me a half K, but at least I got some relief for now. That pain was at 11 today. I struggled to make it through my meetings, lying out in between on the floor or in my bed until my pains subsided a little, and struggled to meet tomorrow’s deadlines. Now I’m in bed again, drowsy from the meds. Gonna sleep soon. I’m annoyed by how the night went. It was an expensive time-consuming escapade, but if you’d asked my when my pain was peaking, I’d have done anything for relief. I’ve never experienced pain like that. Dull persistent ache but painfully intense. We’ll see what tomorrow brings. RE: I'm more broken than you - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 06-30-2022 Hurray, drugs! I've been to the ER a few times when my back pain was unbearable, so all sympathy to you. It seems like getting older means constantly reassessing the 10 Point Pain Scale. I hope the drugs do their job. RE: I'm more broken than you - Greg - 07-01-2022 Yikes. Hurray Big Kaiser! RE: I'm more broken than you - thatguy - 07-01-2022 years (decades?) ago I had a shooting pain in my back, under one of my shoulder blades. It was as if I was being stabbed with a spear. A doctor looked at it, did an ultrasound, and determined that it was my gall bladder. The ultrasound revealed, not gall stones, but "gall sludge". He suggested surgery to remove the gall bladder. I went instead to a Chinese herbalist who gave me a weekend regimen: Fri night: drink 1 cup of olive oil straight. Fast all weekend. Sun night: drink 1 cup of olive oil straight. That second one was really really hard to get down. Knock on wood, I haven't had any gall issues, nor that stabbing pain in the back since. --tg RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 07-01-2022 Interesting. Stacy dealt with that in a similar way, but used a lot of magnesium. I wouldn't describe my pain as like being stabbed with a spear. I actually know how that feels - srsly - in real life. It didn't feel like that. It was a dull ache that just kept expanding in intesity until it put me on the floor. But now I'm all norco-ed up so I'm not feeling it. I despise him. RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 07-01-2022 I felt okay for most of the day but then I got a bit cocky and worked at my workstation for maybe a half hour and that triggered a flair. Something’s wrong with my ergonomics there. I tried to do a Sun salutation but couldn’t even manage a push up. My left arm is so weakened. It’s disturbing. My left was never very strong to begin with but i was okay with push ups before and mastered the one-armed ‘plank’ from Shaolin Tongzigong but I couldn’t get there at all on my left. I must dial it back a notch and rebuild. RE: I'm more broken than you - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 07-02-2022 That weakness sounds more like a nerve pinch. Is it your left shoulder that is plaguing you? RE: I'm more broken than you - King Bob - 07-02-2022 Study hard Greg. No cheating. RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 07-02-2022 My biggest worry is that it’s a slipped or herniated disc. It is a bit nervy. I couldn’t get an mri sorted before this holiday weekend launched. I reached out to my chiro who I haven’t seen since the pandemic began. RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 07-02-2022 The more I suffer through this, the less it feels nervy. It’s like a knot that just won’t release just under the spine side of my left shoulder blade. It’s achy and sore, and I’ve got more aches and knots in my left tricep and forearm. It’s a weird novel pain and strong enough to poke through my meds. The lost of arm strength seems connected to the achy knots which just aren’t responding well. It’s like flinch and I’m not confident pushing through the pain is wise right now. I left the sink running after washing my hands after peeing. Stacy caught it. Despite thinking I’m relatively clear, clearly I’m not. I have noticed myself spacing out more than usual. Stacy suggested I might be losing my mind. Yeah, well, that ship has sailed. Geeze disease. It’s pissing me off now. I’ve worked hard these last months to set up the end of this month, some summer fun, and this is threatening that. Was it really triggered by the stretcher carry? Seems excessive. Then again, I’m old and the pandemic did me no favors health wise. |
