RE: I'm more broken than you - King Bob - 10-25-2021 Well I have chillblains on my toes. Actually I had it last year but when the dermatologist said that was the problem, I scoffed. I hadn't been exposed to extreme cold and was never anywhere close to getting frostbite. After this visit, the doctor gave me a post visit report with some info, and it said some people have gotten it after having Covid (which I believe I had in early March 2020, before there were tests available). Luckily it's nowhere near as bad this time. Last winter it was several toes on each foot and really painful. Now only the top of the second toe on my right foot, and a spot on my left big toe, and they are improving. And I discovered that soaking in a warm solution of epsom salts and baking soda really helps. Hot water might be just as good, but the additives are supposed to be helpful against athlete's foot, which I sometimes suffer from in the winter. I haven't yet this year, so it might be working. RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 10-25-2021 An acquaintance of mine got bad Covid toes. Didn't sound like chilblains but now I see the connection. I was exposed to frostbite on my palm when I failed a backpacking assault on Mt Whitney with my dad. For years, my hands ached horribly when they got cold. Now the neuropathy obscures that. So a win? I dunno, man. My whole body hurts somedays now... RE: I'm more broken than you - Greg - 10-25-2021 The Queen got her biopsy results. Her doctor said, "It's not cancer. But it's not not-cancer, too" Fuck Doctors. Basically, it isn't cancer. But it looks a lot like what could turn into cancer. Surgery consult coming up. RE: I'm more broken than you - Greg - 10-30-2021 Once again, gravity has reached up and wrapped me in her rough embrace. Yes. Once again you could have found me on the ground this morning. Look, I do get strange dizzy spells where it feels like my whole brain has been rung, but it's not that. It's just gravity being a dick. With an assist from friction. I'm out with the dogs. It's dark. I'm thinking the deep thought about Yosemite and how to make that knowledge into a documentary. I'm on the road around my house. The dogs are off doing what dogs do because I've let them off the leash. I'm on a the gravel covered section of the road just past the point where the tarmac ends. I feel my feet slip. Time has slowed. My brain struggles to come up with options to save us from the ground but I can feel I'm already too far past the point of no return. My center of gravity is heading for the ground. I feel my right knee drive into the gravel ground. My left palm has taken some of the force of the rapid descent. Just like that, I'm on my back looking at Orion. Son of a bitch. Oddly, I started the day with a twinge in the left knee. That knee wasn't feeling right. It didn't want to move. Now, that I've driven my right knee into the rocks, the left knee feels great in comparison. I really wish I hadn't slipped the dogs off the leash so early, because then I good have said they had dragged me down in their pursuit of some shadow in the bushes. Nope. And they never came to check on me on the ground either. I would think my fall would warrant a courtesy sniff of concern. Nothing. Later Maeve did show and point out my reflector band I wear on my hat was now on the ground. I dusted myself off and assayed the damage. In the dim light from the crescent moon, I couldn't see any blood. It didn't feel too bad so I continued my walk. I walked for another half hour or so. By the time of the end of the walk, the adrenaline was gone and the knee was giving me some feels. In the bathroom, I could see I had nice bit of road rash. Nothing spectacular though. Nothing to get oohs and ahs and questions of "What Happened!?!?" Just a golfball size patch of scratches. In the betting for who is going to break their hip first, it has to be me with the best odds, right? I'm not quite ready to be placing odds. Too preoccupied with envy at your view of Orion. RE: I'm more broken than you - Greg - 10-30-2021 Orion is very clear right now RE: I'm more broken than you - cranefly - 11-02-2021 If all goes according to plan, I'll be going in bright and early this Thursday for a TURP procedure. It's not as roto-rooterish as I thought, just opening up the strangle-hold the prostate has on the urethra. There are two techniques. Both introduce a tube. One then passes a laser up it to do some judicious burning of tissue. The other technique is to send Edward Scissorhands up there to do some hedge trimming. I don't know which will be used. But I'm looking forward to peeing blood for a while. I also don't know if this is a catch-and-release aaffair or whether I'll be spending a day or two in the hospital. Whichever, I'll meet you on the other side. RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 11-02-2021 Heal strong brother. We’ll be thinking about you. RE: I'm more broken than you - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 11-03-2021 Good luck to you and steady hands to your surgeon. RE: I'm more broken than you - Greg - 11-03-2021 Yikes. Good luck. Lasers are cooler than hedge trimmers. RE: I'm more broken than you - cranefly - 11-03-2021 I do have one lingering concern. For the two hip operations, the surgeon would stop in pre-surgery, ask which hip was to be done, I'd say, and if it matched his notes, he'd sign his name on that hip with a flourish. I'm just hoping this surgeon has small enough handwriting. RE: I'm more broken than you - Greg - 11-03-2021 Ha! In through the out door. |
