We already paid the liquidators fee and a bit extra just selling my mother's costume jewelry. The book collection went out earlier this week

Well, I think we have ended the liquidation phase and are about to move into the selling phase. First up, cleaning and home inspections.

I had a bit of a hiccup with closing the cash accounts. My mother's cause of death was listed as pending on her death certificate. One of the banks won't grant a claim on a pending cause of death. Fortunately, the addendum giving cause of death arrived this week.

Cause of death: heart failure.

Heart failure is always the cause of death, ultimately.

I spent yesterday yelling in my mind at the Liquidators when I realized they had thrown away everything in the fridge. They did say nothing would be left in the house. Then i yelled at myself for not having a light in my bedroom. Overjoyed there was still a chair in the bedroom.

The finality creeps ever closer. I think I'm eating my last meal in the house, a lovely bagel breakfast sandwich from Saratoga Bagels. The house is completely empty. A million picture hooks on the walls give silent reminder of what once was. I'm spending the morning pulling those to silence even that reminder. I'm also pulling out the family crest that was installed in 1992 when Lyndell and I rebuilt the kitchen.

Yesterday, we had three home inspections to see what was wrong with the house; a general inspection, termite, and roof. All in all the house structure is in good shape. No ugly expensive surprises.

The house goes on the market a week from Friday as a contractor's special. Probably be sold within two weeks of that. I might come back one more time, although it's not neccesary.

Man, that's gotta be weird. I remember spending my last night at our Fremont house, Macbeth Ranch, when it was empty and about to go on the market. It was the house Tara grew up in and the first and only one that I've ever owned. Can't imagine what it'll be like to let go of my mom's house. That's been my old home for 53 years.

If you do come back, hopefully it'll be a Jake's night.

One of Christina's friends just sold her mom's Saratoga house. It was off Prospect, behind the synagogue and the church. Despite having a foundation issue and a moisture problem in the crawlspace (apparently there's an underground stream over there) it went for over asking, just above 4M, selling in a week. And it had not been updated since it was built in the late 60s or early 70s.

Lynch Manor might move quickly.

It's basically winning a very slow lottery.

RE: Lynch Castle Estate Stories. - Greg - 04-11-2025

Lynch Castle hits the market today.

RE: Lynch Castle Estate Stories. - Drunk Monk - 04-11-2025

Asking price?

RE: Lynch Castle Estate Stories. - Greg - 04-11-2025

First offer in. Way too low.

RE: Lynch Castle Estate Stories. - Greg - 04-13-2025

Having a Zoom meeting to discuss latest offer. Seems a bit more serious than the last offer since the realtor wants to talk to all of us.

RE: Lynch Castle Estate Stories. - Greg - 04-16-2025

We have three cash accounts from my mother's estate. I've already cleared out one and I've been fighting for a month to get paper work to the other two. Lo and behold one of them finally came through yesterday in two substantial checks. Except, they seemed light. By about $9K. Which meant that overall, because my sisters would be getting the same amounts, we would be shorts $27K. Crap. I spent the morning cursing our current president for tanking the stock market thinking that's where the loss occurred.

Nope. The people handing out the checks decided to withhold taxes despite the fact we told them repeatedly there would be no taxes since this was an inheritance. Sent them a death certificate and everything. More calls to make.

RE: Lynch Castle Estate Stories. - Greg - 04-16-2025

Got a fairly good offer on the house. We put down a counter-offer.

End of an era. Lynch Castle just sold. 3.6
