RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 04-30-2021 (04-30-2021, 09:23 AM)cranefly Wrote: I held out until about 1 am this morning, then yielded to LCF's advice and took an oxycontin, or whatever it's called. Why, bro, why? Take yer meds. That's why the prescribed them to you. Glad you survived. Heal strong, brother! (04-30-2021, 09:37 AM)Greg Wrote: The Last Rambo movie did suck (I never watched it. I'm assuming) Me neither. It's been in my queue forever. Someday maybe... RE: I'm more broken than you - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 04-30-2021 Take the drugs. In fact, take 'em when the pain gets to a 5 or a 6 to get ahead of it (the advice of my Med Pros during my last 2 hospital runs). Heal fast/seek revenge. RE: I'm more broken than you - Greg - 04-30-2021 Where do I get my Heal Fast/Seek Revenge tshirt? RE: I'm more broken than you - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 04-30-2021 Available as a tattoo. RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 05-01-2021 Would make a nice tramp stamp. (04-30-2021, 11:48 PM)Dr. Ivor Yeti Wrote: Available as a tattoo. The best t-shirts are tattoos. One of the side effects of this operation is constipation. Wouldn't you know it, I went into the operation without having a bowel movement since early the previous day. The pain killers exacerbate the problem. I was trying to avoid them for that reason. Yesterday was miserable in that regard. Yes, I'm taking laxatives and whatever, but they take time to work their magic. Late yesterday I got some hard-fought relief. Yesterday a nurse/therapist came out. He evaluated me and my setup, made recommendations, prescribed exercises. He does consider me a fall risk, in part due to the neurological hit I took a couple years ago. The cause was never pinned down, but these days I'm the last to know I'm off-balance. The walker is my friend. In martial arts parlance, I must become one with my sword -- where the sword is my walker. I have yet to see my wound. He checked the bandage and said all looked well. I won't have it changed until Monday or Tuesday next week. As for when the stitches come out, there are none. None on the surface at least. The surgeon used superglue. When I asked why he used superglue, the nurse answered with a question. "Do you know how much stitches cost these days?" Okay, he didn't say that. But the incision is glued shut. Make a note of that, and add superglue to your battlefield readiness pack. RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 05-02-2021 Already there. When cyanoacrylates were first developed, they looked at them for applications for military medics. It's a common survivalist trick, assuming your not Rambo and don't have a fish hook and twine. Note that some superglues are toxic. Others, developed for medical use like what is sealing your incision, have sterilizing properties. RE: I'm more broken than you - Greg - 05-06-2021 Yes, the trifecta of Issue posts for me today. My nurse practitioner has been playing with my diabetes meds to get my blood sugar numbers down. It's been very high for too long and we were almost at the stage where I would need go on an insulin regimen. But I resisted. I've been exercising more via my VRHeadset and the workout program Superantural and that has helped. But so have the drugs. Unfortunately they've been working too well on some days. I've had more crashes in my sugar levels in the past two weeks than I have had in years. I even got down to 60 on one day! (Normal range would be 90 - 110) That's been fun. Hopefully this will prolong my entrance to death's door just a little bit longer. RE: I'm more broken than you - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 05-06-2021 Yeah, put that whole “death’s door” thing off for a bit, willya? I’m sure tQ has issued a decree along those same lines RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 05-06-2021 Yeah, let us light & welterweights go first so as not to put so much burden on the DOOM pallbearers. RE: I'm more broken than you - Greg - 05-06-2021 This got dark. RE: I'm more broken than you - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 05-06-2021 Dude, it never really got all that light. It’s in the name. RE: I'm more broken than you - Greg - 05-07-2021 Oh. I see that now. Sort of. Here in the darkness. RE: I'm more broken than you - cranefly - 05-11-2021 Yesterday I was introduced to the cane. The objective is to try to walk without a limp. I succeeded for maybe 25 feet, but then the overall weakness of the surgical leg demanded a respectful kowtow. Today I've been almost exclusively on cane. It's a dragon-head cane from Wing Lam Enterprises. I'm still not very good with it, but I'm upping my activity dramatically at this point. The last home care visit is tomorrow morning. Maybe half an hour ago Kaiser called me. I'm now scheduled to get hip #2 done on June 18. No rest for the wicked. Actually, no rest for LCF. I hate hitting her with another round of this, but at age 70 I don't think I should put it off any longer. I believe this first surgery went very well. Now I feel like a gambler at the roulette wheel who just won a roll and has decided to let it ride. Double or nothing. For the first time in my life I'm glad I'm not a centipede. RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 05-11-2021 Those Dragon Head canes that Sifu got were true treasures. I've never seen any as good, and I've searched. Good to hear you're making progress and putting that cane to use, although I imagine you're not doing the tornado kick in the form. As for being a centipede, there's still time... ![]() |
