RE: Sheltering in Place - Greg - 10-22-2020

Oh, the ABA! I miss bags of free books.

That's a lot of schools. Does he make a lot of money doing that?

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-22-2020

No idea how much he makes. Managing a martial arts franchise can be quite lucrative. I know they all do well on the seminar circuit - the whole family and top disciples - at least, they were until covid.

ABA is long gone. It was replaced by BEA im 1994. And of course, it was shut down by covid. The next BEA is scheduled for Spring 2021 but realistically, they are projecting the next major in-person book gathering to be ALA in the end of June 2021. But we shall see. I'm hoping that the book con door opens up to me again should I secure this job. Fingers crossed.

That would be sweet.

PGW is “Publishers Group West”? A jobber?

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-22-2020

Yep. YMAA was distributed by PGW back when we did ABA. They subsquently moved on to another indie distributor but recently returned to them.

The YMAA bossmang invited me to sit in on their presale meeting for 3 new YMAA titles this morning. It went for an hour and there were about a dozen of us - me and the bossmang and reps from B&N, Amazon, Ingram, Library, and others all under the PGW umbrella. It was a fascinating look into book publishing - still a thriving industry thankfully but multidimensional now. Despite the brick&mortar stores closing, covid has had little affect on the publishing industry overall.

Quote:The proposed work should address some aspect of Oriental culture - martial arts, Qigong (Chi Kung), philosophy, medicine, etc. Self-defense books should clearly distinguish between between martial arts applications and self-defense. Works of Fiction must be grounded in some aspect of martial arts or Asian healing arts.

Oh, sure. Now, you're going to follow the rules, Mr. Pirate err Ninja. Pirja? Ninrate?

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-22-2020

Hmmmm, now there's an idea. DM could poach Not the Best Boy and rewrite it adding ninjas and sword fights. It could start with the epic DM vs Yeti playground mask-tossing film and launch into a epic duel like in The Duellists that spans Greg's movie wood butcher career.

That would sell.

Finishing in a pitched sword-fight at a gay nightclub in SOMA. He with the largest thighs wins!

Don’t hate the player...

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-23-2020

212: Dog training class, socially distant dog walk with a friend at Ariana Grande, YMAA & KFM Work. Happy Friday?

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-24-2020

213: Kung Fu in the morning. Yay. Then I must do the YMAA & KFM work that I didn't do today, plus some Den work. That's for today and tomorrow. Plus I should catch up on some correspondence that I've been putting off.

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-25-2020

214: Still got work for YMAA, KFM & Den. I'll probably just chip on that all day with some breaks for Yuki walks and such.

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-26-2020

215: Monday morning work. There's ongoing YMAA & KFM stuff, plus a tiny task for Immortal which is done already. Cleared my Den stuff already but can work ahead.
