I'm getting so tired of lying to Kaiser. I'm not trying to deceive them -- just avoid unnecessary work at their end as well as mine. A few days ago they asked the standard question of whether I had experienced the constellation of symptoms associated with covid. I said no, even though the day before I'd had chills, felt run down, maybe had a bit of fever. The thing is, just the day before --- with the Russian's blessing -- I got my second Shringrex (for shingles) shot. A day later I had a sore arm, minor chills, etc., all to be expected. But if I had answered yes, it might have started an avalanche of checks up the chain and possible delays.
Then today they called to make arrangements for a therapist to come out Friday after the operation. "Do you have any pets?" Halvah is so docile, she could almost be classified as furniture. But I was honest and said yes. "We ask that you confine any pets to a room during the visit. Fine, fine. Then came the question that threw me into a tizzy.
"Do you have any unsecured weapons in the house?"
After a pause bordering on the suspicious, I said no.
After we're done and I hang up, I look at the weapons rack behind me overflowing with swords, three-section staff, daggers, chainwhip, etc. I think about the big Guan dao in the living room. Oh, and the spears there too. There's weapons throughout the house and in the shed and studio. And I feel a little irresponsible telling her no. But I'm interpretating her "weapons" to mean firearms, and I think that's reasonable. After all, every house they come to is going to have a kitchen full of knives. If they complain, and I want to be real anal about it, I'll ask if there's any unsecured weapons in the operating room. Because I've seen the Russian's blood-channel scalpels. That's not kitchenware, I'm pretty sure.
Anyway, I go in at 7 am tomorrow (Thursday). By around 10:30 they should finish with me. If all goes well, I'll come home in early afternoon.

Oh my god! How is hip replacement outpatient surgery? Good luck. Sending out good thoughts for a speedy recovery.
And when the nurse asks about all the weapons around the house just go "Oh, you meant those weapons. My bad"

You could always secure those weapons. Chain them down. Chains make for great décor.
I must say, imagining you answering that question sitting in your living room makes me smile.

When my mom got her new knees, recovery was astonishingly quick. She did spend some time in a rehab place tho. Amazing what they can do nowadays.

And judging from my mom and one of her friends (unscientific I know) the hip is an easier recovery.

Getting back to the subject at hand, I think the last RAMBO movie really sucked.
No, wait. An update on my operation. Bulletin: The Kraken has a mother, and she's not very loving.
I held out until about 1 am this morning, then yielded to LCF's advice and took an oxycontin, or whatever it's called.
I'm surprisingly disabled at this point. Poor LCF, she has to get me everything, help me in and out of bed, into chairs, etc. I'm moving very slowly in whatever I do.
At the hospital, during the initial first steps, the therapist commented on my instability, saying that my right leg seems shorter. If true, that's a bad omen. It should be longer than the left at this point. Also, I used to be taller than LCF. Now I only come to her waist. I suspect that this is well-deserved punishment for always making light of dwarves and midgets here on DOOM.
A therapist comes at 1 pm to declare our house a disaster area. Not sure what fixes he can recommend for a 70-year-old house that we'd be willing to do. Maybe he'll recommend we move.
