Only the tea about the Abbott. I was also gifted some tea.

Oooooh what did GM Tu have to say about the Abbot? I didn’t think they ever met.

And what kind of tea?

Nothing juicy about the Abbot. They just said that everyone has known about his malfeasance for years.

Make movie magic. See if I can get that damn clock to stop ticking.

RE: Nose to the grindstone 2025 - Drunk Monk - 08-21-2025

Today was our Q2 telemeet for YMAA - way long & painful - especially because my Mac was being obstinate. The boss says he might get me a new one. That would be nice and certainly increase my efficiency - I’m burning like an hour a day getting my Mac to work.

Tonight is my return to iaido after a month off.

We all are driven to cut.

I was supposed to go to yoga today. My usual class is replaced by an intensive, which of course, Stacy is attending. But last night I had a brutal left shin cramp - probably a result of the heat messing with my salt plus my return to iai which involves a lot of kneeling. Kept me up for a lot of the night and my shin is hella sore.

Today is just work. I was planning to work Weird Al at the dump tonight but I bailed. I got PPFY. I don't need no stinkin Weird Al. Might do the Midtown Block Party tonight - some band called Jive Machine.

Happy Friday.

I’ve seen PPP back in 2014. That wasn’t a draw for me.

Today I just have Kung Fu. And I need to attend to bills, both mine & my mom’s. It’s weird not to have anything more after such a colossal run over the last few weeks. Alas, the default world, a place to nap more…

All is cutting. The clock ticks louder every day.

Break a leg!

Legs broken...

Apparently, I underestimated when the lull between lunch and dinner service would occur. When I got the gig, I was there on a Monday eve, ~6pm, and there were maybe 10-15 people out on the patio. I figured weekend lunch would be busier, but the place was nearly full from 2pm to about 4:45pm and then resurged about an hour later. I only played for an hour and, as a trial, wanted to keep it simple, so we didn't bring a PA, but there was so much chatter I really had to try hard to be heard just introducing songs. I had Aaron, another open mic regular, help me on about 1/3 my set. The songs where he joined were much better, partially because of the extra volume. The third third of my set I played thru a mini-amp, so at least the guitar could be heard if not the vocals...

It was a beautiful day to be outside in a shaded patio.

Our set:

— Me solo (Std tuning)
- Act Natural (Margaret Glaspy)
- Dinky Dog the Demon Master (Spot 1019)
- Wasn’t Born to Follow (The Byrds)
- Caesar’s Revenge (Marseille Figs) - kid friendly version
- California (The Rentals - from a demo tape)
- The Waiting (Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers) - I successfully played the Mike Campbell guitar parts with a harmonica. It's fun getting everyone to join in on the "yeah yeahs"

— duo w/Aaron
- Underneath the Bunker (R.E.M.)
- Mr. Spaceman (The Byrds)
- California Stars (Billy Bragg & Wilco)
- Rain (The Beatles)
- Here Comes Your Man(do) (Pixies) - I sang backup and played mandolin
(switch to DADAAE guitar)
- Find Your Place in the Sun (Bashi Bazouks)

— Me solo (DADAAE tuning)
- When Silence Was Golden (David Schnaufer)
- By this River (Brian Eno) - accompanied myself with a looper/amp
- Museum of Idiots (They Might Be Giants)
- Call & Answer (Bare Naked Ladies) - my other cohort couldn't make it so it was missing the harmonies
- Flowers (Camper van Beethoven) - ditto

Encore (w/Aaron)
- Where the Hell is Bill? (Camper van Beethoven) - great sing-along...

We got a $1 tip from a guy from Millbrae. The food (a brat w/saurkraut followed by an apfle schnitzel) was excellent and I enjoyed 2 grapefruit radlers after the show.

We were invited back. Next time we'll bring a PA.
