At the Light Saber Academy of San Francisco, students will be asked to wear robes matching their level of training. [/color]
There are ten little words that every Bay Area “Star Wars” fan has been waiting to hear. And those words are, “Welcome to the international network of sporting Light Saber Combat.”
Light saber fighting is really a thing and has been for some time. In the past, light saber classes allowed wanna-be Jedis to learn the basics of saber handling. But thanks to LudoSport, one can now actually sign up for light saber tournaments and compete locally, nationally, and internationally.
Founded in Italy 10 years ago, LudoSport’s light saber academies and tournaments have swept Europe. Really. The whole concept is a bit complicated, although for “Star Wars” fans who wish to compete in international light saber duels, the detailed (and we mean DETAILED) rules, logistics, and philosophy behind the “sport” might be right up their alley.
There are seven forms of lights saber combat and ten rules. Much like karate belt colors, light saber athletes must wear the correct uniform for their level of light saber skill. Players are rated on experience, fighting skills, and technical quality (presumably by someone who fancies himself a present-day Obi-Wan Kenobi.) Points are earned by attending classes and meeting up with fellow light saber athletes in the LudoSport network for actual duels. The results must be deposited online after every battle.
LudoSport takes the whole thing very seriously. This isn’t “Star Wars” camp. LudoSport is making the leap to the United States by opening an academy right here in San Francisco. Classes begin October 15th at Studiomix on Van Ness.
Hopefully our status as the first U.S. city to house a light saber academy will give San Francisco a leg up on hosting an international light saber tournament.
Future Jedi masters can sign up here.

Wow, Kung Fu was such a big part of my growing up. I'd attend and buy Grasshopper Radames a beer for a toast, if only he weren't a minor.
Those who do attend, bring pebbles. Lots and lots of pebbles.
And show No Mercy!
Oops, wrong franchise...

Wow - is that right? The only surviving cast member? I may have to check that out. I remember an old IKF article about him. I think he was a hairdresser or something like that. Don't laugh - same fate for Jet Ali's 1st wife and she was former Beijing wushu team.
I sent Dm sexted yeti about LudoSport. There's a major glow sword event coming to SF in dec too.
RE: It's my martial arts world - El Dingo - 10-15-2016
Was "Kung Fu" the first series to regularly integrate 'flashback' elements into the story? There were two key scenrs that shaped my youthful philosophy; the demonstration of a gun by tricking young Caine into shooting a beautiful vase and the masters becoming servants for him when he complains about chores.
Damn that show was awesome.
Pebbles for Pera - Drunk Monk - 10-15-2016
Anyone want to go interview Pera? I could probably hook up a pass and an interview via KFM. We'd compensate $85 for 1500 words & pix. Let me know. I am tempted to do it myself but I don't foresee having the bandwidth.
Dr. Strange Love - Greg - 10-20-2016
So, Mads Millken (who people only know as Hannibal rather Le Chifre) loves Bruce Lee and was incredibly excited to get to do fight scenes in Dr. Strange.

Mads was trained as a dancer. He has Mads Skillz.
mads....meh - Drunk Monk - 10-21-2016
When it comes to dr strange martial arts, it's all about Scott Adkins. Been following his work for years. Adkins is one of the leading martial stars right now and this is his biggest role so far. Hopefully he'll get a decent fight scene.

Quote:Jackie Chan: The Fists, the Fury, the Oscar
By JONAH ENGEL BROMWICH
November 15, 2016
On Saturday, Jackie Chan, a legend in martial arts cinema, finally received an Oscar.
Those movie buffs familiar only with Mr. Chan’s appearances in blockbusters like the “Rush Hour” trilogy and “Shanghai Noon” may not realize just how long a career the Hong Kong native has had as an actor, director and producer.
Mr. Chan, 62, who began acting when he was very young, has wowed audiences the world over not only with the balletic, high-kicking “Drunken Master” techniques in his early karate moves, but also with the complex action sequences and comedic timing that gave his career a long arc.
And he has broken many bones doing it, he said, since he has done his own stunts.
According to IMDB, the online film website, he has appeared in 134 films as an actor. But if you count his directing, producing and writing, as well, his film credits may number well over 200, as he noted when accepting the Honorary Oscar.
“After 56 years in the film industry, making more than 200 films — I break so many bones — finally, this is mine,” he said, shaking the golden statue.
In his acceptance speech, a beaming Mr. Chan told a story about a time his father asked when he was going to win an Academy Award.
“Dad, I only make comedy-action movies,” Mr. Chan recalled saying.
He told how he had become obsessed with the award after seeing one at the home of Sylvester Stallone, and recounted his disbelief upon hearing that he had finally received it.
Mr. Chan was among a roster of artists to receive the Honorary Academy Award, whose recipients were announced in September. It’s given to celebrate “extraordinary achievement” and “exceptional contributions” over the course of a filmmaker’s career, and it was roundly celebrated on social media.
A comment from Lucius Hale, a 19-year-old from Kristiansand, Norway, was typical. “I’m really glad that Jackie Chan got an Oscar,” he said. “That man has been part of my life so long, and his movies are so goood.”
Others celebrated Mr. Chan’s status as a trailblazing Asian actor in American films.
It was difficult to find anyone on Twitter questioning whether Mr. Chan had earned the award. But for anyone who has doubts about Mr. Chan’s skill onscreen, here are five clips that, together, illustrate some of his most impressive work.
