RE: Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens - Greg - 04-25-2016

Saw this again on the seat back on the way to London. Could have watched all seven films in the series if I had been so inclined.

Still on tiny screen viewing, it held up. I also have the bonus blu-ray pack and I watched that, too. Still waiting to see the extras with the tQ.

I got the BRD combo pack too, just for those extras. But the extras are only on BRD, and I only gotz DVD. So disappointed.

so close... - Drunk Monk - 05-13-2016

This needed writhing female silhouettes in Leia slave bikinis to really work.   Dodgy

The Star Wars universe is important because it keeps so many VFX people busy between actual jobs.

Finally saw this. DVRed it so I could skip the commercials. I had already seen Ep. 8, which I found a bit confusing since I hadn't seen this.

I thought it could have been a bit shorter. And some things weren't explained, like who is Snoke and where did he come from? Was it in one of those cartoons are something?

And, as usual, most the big events in the movie were echoes of events in the original trilogy. I'm getting tired of that.

Snoke was never explained satisfactorily. He was supposed to be some sort of bio-engineered creation of the Emperor but that never came across (I think that's from the comics but I never got that deep).  I was really disappointed when it turned out that he was human sized and not super huge like his holo was in e7.

Star Wars fell into the 'destroy the world destroyer' arc just like the Bond fell into the 'recapture the captured nuclear warhead' plot.

Watching this in timeline order makes it work better. Sure, it has its moments and ginormous plot holes but the action is solid and the effects are evolved. Man, those stormtroopers fly in this one - so many flying stormtroopers as they’re blown back from explosions that it’s make a fun drinking game (if only blue milk was alcoholic).

Daisy nearly steals the show with her overacting (I thinks it’s just they way her face is built and I’m fine with that). I’m still annoyed by her quick force skills acquisition. She makes more improvement than Luke between E V & VI. Finn & Poe are rather flat characters. Han outshines them all. I’m still not down with Kylo and his dumb lightsaber.

I don’t remember getting an explanation for why Maz has Luke’s lightsaber. I wonder what became of Kenobi’s or Yoda’s for that matter. Or Darth’s… where do these lightsabers go?

This is a rather amusing thread upon the reread. It charts the franchise reawakening on several levels - the Disney park, the Kenobi series, even Zack Snyder’s offshoot. I love when old threads to that.

Seeing this again pales by comparison to seeing it in Madrid.
