RE: I'm more broken than you - cranefly - 04-29-2020 Well, last night I did the unthinkable. Or rather, I was thoughtless. For dessert I had a handful of chocolate chips, only I put them in cold yogurt, which made them very hard and crunchy. Lo and behold, late in the proceedings a tooth didn't align right. I figured it was detritus and tried to remove it with floss. The entire tooth came out, or rather a crown, in a part of the mouth where I didn't recall having a crown. And here I've been trying my damnedest not to burden medical professionals more than they already are right now with some fool careless action. So I got hold of the dentist office, told them a crown came off and which tooth, and the receptionist told me the dentist had not put a crown there. Damned aliens. That's something else they like to do. Cryptic dental work. Still, it's usually really good work. But like I said, I was careless. The receptionist insists it's just a filling that came out (nope, it's crown, but you think I can convince her about the aliens?), and she'll contact the dentist to see what can be done. Right now they simply don't have the PPE to be messing around in people's mouths. Feeling very foolish and irresponsible right now. And alien-invaded... RE: I'm more broken than you - Greg - 04-29-2020 It's completely unexplicable. RE: I'm more broken than you - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 04-29-2020 I certainly can’t explic it. RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 04-29-2020 You're like the third person I've heard who lost a crown since the SIP, cf. So sorry to hear that. I'm told that it can be reattached temporarily with super glue (totally serious here - super glue was originally designed as a 'liquid stitch' for the military). There are also temporary tooth replacement kits available at most drugs stores. If it's a tooth, you should store it in milk, but if it's just a crown, it doesn't matter. I've had to deal with people chipped teeth a few times due to the martial arts and my event med work so I do speak with a tad of experience here. Feckin aliens. A crown bug is worse than the hexagonal genital scar. And thanks for stealing my 'more broken than you' thunder here. ftw? I'll add that when you cut your thumb, the thumb unlock for your iPhone no longer functions. It's sore on the left side. I've got a tiny crack in an upper molar on my right so I've been chewing on my left. The crack isn't sore but it does tend to catch on things so I work to keep it clean. But now my left side is clicking and has some muscular tension. TMJ maybe? It came out of nowhere and has been going for a few days now. RE: I'm more broken than you - cranefly - 05-25-2020 TMJ? Not fun. I don't think I've ever had it. But LCF has, and also my sister. It can be stress-related, which I suspect you know. Reminds me of carpal-tunnel, just how hard it can be to pin down and treat. My crown is at the dentist, awaiting a safe time to remount. Actually, it no longer fits (the dentist chanced seeing me, was going to do a temp fix, but no dice). But she'll model a new crown on the old one when I see her next, hopefully in a couple weeks. So far my crownless molar base has not broken down (with careful brushing after every meal). Your TMJ sounds more potentially problematic. Hope it settles down. RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 05-25-2020 I remember lcf grappled with tmj. Does this sound like it? I've always worked to keep my jaw loose. Ordinarily I'd see my chiropractor about such things as she's a miracle worker, but I haven't seen her in months. I could probably get an emergency session with her, but things would have to be really bad for me to do that, and right now, it's just annoying. I have some muscle relaxants that I might try if this continues a few more days. I have some muscle relaxants that I might try if this continues a few more days. The clicking sounds like it. Plus the tense muscles. I've chased my stress all throughout my body, and for a while it ended up in my jaws and that (and grinding my teeth at night) are what did it. You could try the muscle relaxants. LCF RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 05-25-2020 Thanks. I am tense lately. That's for sure. It seems to be lessening now. Still not quite right, but improving. The clicking is the weird part, as if my jaw is out of alignment. It reminds me of the times when I've been hit in the jaw a little bit. I carry most of my tension between my scapula but I know what you mean about it migrating about the body. Do you still suffer from TMJ? Now I just can't sleep very well. :-} You're familiar with that too, I know. RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 05-26-2020 Yeah, I’ve never slept well. I’ve suffered from insomnia all my life. I remember Sifu giving my a qigong method that kinda worked for a while. RE: I'm more broken than you - The Queen - 05-27-2020 FWIW, I used to clench my jaw and grind my teeth at night; had the clicking jaw thing, plus painful headaches. My dentist recommended I start wearing a night guard. Fixed the jaw problem and lessened the number of headaches (the ones caused by grinding teeth). Not inexpensive solution; fortunately my insurance covered most of it. RE: I'm more broken than you - Drunk Monk - 05-27-2020 i don't believe i clench my teeth at night but you never know. i imagine i could just wear my mouth guard, assuming i knew where that was. all my stuff is in mixed boxes now. besides that would probably trigger my ptsd from when i had to wear a positioner post-braces. that used to bother me a lot when i had to use a mouthpiece. that positioner experiecne haunted me for decades... i've benzoed up tonight with a whiskey back and worked some dragon balm and cbd rub into my jaw. hopefully there will be improvement tomorrow. |
