RE: Andor(2022) - thatguy - 06-09-2025 Season Two seen... I didn't like the all-to-obvious "French rebellion" overtones, all the way to the 4-floor buildings of Paris and the outragious Ghorman accent (you silly King!). Apart from that, I enjoyed it. I thought Kleya was a standout and I searched online to see what else Elizabeth Dulau has done and all of the articles are about how this was her first acting gig out of school. She is someone to watch going forward...Also nice to get more of K-2SO. I, too, was inspired to rewatch Rogue One after binging, as that was my fav installment after "A New Hope", but it was late, and my queue is already large, so I put that notion aside for now. --tg RE: Andor(2022) - Greg - 06-09-2025 She did a really good job. Nice for a first gig. Lots of standout rolls. RE: Andor(2022) - Drunk Monk - 06-29-2025 Now 2 eps in. I was just going to watch one before bed after the dancehall but I was so engaged I had to watch another. I had to pull myself away because I need to sleep, it’s already Sunday. I love how expansive the locations are - the whole look of it is fresh for the galaxy far far away. Thoroughly enjoying it so far. The whole vibe (and the blatant political metaphor) is hitting me just right. Genevieve is killing it as Mon. And I loved the ‘E chut a!’ - a solid Easter egg right there. 10 more eps? I’m in. RE: Andor(2022) - Drunk Monk - 07-01-2025 10 down, 2 to go. Loving this show. Finally Star Wars delivers a message. The franchise has been solely space opera but now it launches into social commentary. And I disagree with tg’s comment about this being about the French Revolution - it’s about us, as in the U.S. I’m impressed with the foresight - the stormtrooper ICE agents searching farmers hit close to home especially considering that the production time of this was long before ICE came into play. When the Ghorman senator gets forced out by stormtroopers, it foreshadowed Padilla perfectly. It’s so dark, so much death and sacrifice. Enough to inspire the fandom to act? Most of the reveals have been predictable but not the death count. I knew they were after khyber not whatever mineral they said they were after because 1. The Death Star khyber crystal was a major story arc in Rebels and 2. We know Cass’ ultimate fate. In that way, it plays out a bit like ST:SNW because there, we all know Capt. Pike’s fate. Beyond the story and dark mirror into our present political landscape, what’s really impressing me is the cinematography. It’s subtle yet complex, showing off the architecture of this new world expansion. I’ll probably finish this tomorrow night. RE: Andor(2022) - Greg - 07-02-2025 Ep08 still rules. Get ready to roll right into Rogue One. It resonates because we are reliving early 1930s Europe here in the US. --tg RE: Andor(2022) - Drunk Monk - 07-02-2025 Fair Oddly I was just talking about freedom fries with a Kung Fu classmate from Paris. He said those fries actually come from Belgium. RE: Andor(2022) - thatguy - 07-02-2025 (07-02-2025, 01:45 PM)Drunk Monk Wrote: Fair Pomme Frites ("pomme" is short for pomme de Terre - "Apple of the Earth"...potatoes). The Belgians like them with mayo. There used to be a good Pomme Frite joint in Noe Valley, back when Terra and I were marching against George Bush the 2nd. " --tg RE: Andor(2022) - Drunk Monk - 07-02-2025 I love fries with mayo. It makes me feel continental. Can't do that now - too many carbs. Still do it with sweet potato fries when I'm feeling gluttonous. How might you say 'pomme frites' in Ghorman? I know how to say it in wookinese. It's 'aaarrggheaggh' (pardon my French) (07-02-2025, 08:02 AM)Greg Wrote: Ep08 still rules. If Andor continues on its prophetic metaphor track, I hope not to be there when Ep08 goes down. Nowadays, it feels highly probable. :-( RE: Andor(2022) - King Bob - 07-02-2025 Oddly "Freedom Fries" popped into my head this morning RE: Andor(2022) - Drunk Monk - 07-02-2025 Hmmm. Well that makes two of us. Maybe it’s a sign that we should invest? Finished it. Then ending was kinda tepid for me. It lost speed and the last eps were like “watch R1” next but I just rewatched that like 3 months ago ( http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomForum/showthread.php?tid=3946&pid=71031#pid71031 ) so I’m not biting at that. In the end, it weirded me out that R1 was basically a prequel leading straight up to ANH, and this was a prequel leading strait up to R1 - will they prequel this next? I enjoyed it overall nevertheless. D00M recommended. RE: Andor(2022) - Greg - 07-03-2025 Ep 08 was the peak and then it got weaker. RE: Andor(2022) - Drunk Monk - 07-04-2025 E8 was definitely the climax. The rest was denouement - a creation story for K-2S0 to inject some much needed yet incongruent humor, and the slog to the inevitable R1 tragedy. 9–12 could’ve been compressed into 1 or 2 eps. Will there be another prequel series leading up to Andor where we see even more rebels sacrifice themselves? It could be Luthen. Or Mon… If I’m right, I’ll expect nachos at the crafty table. |
