He does too. It was revealed to him in a time travel episode. RE: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Drunk Monk - 07-18-2025 S3ep1 was the conclusion of the cliffhanger from last season's conclusion. The Enterprise is fighting off a Gorn invasion. Like the Klingon mutation, the new Gorns are like Aliens, mostly CGI. I need to rewatch Arena because this totally messes with canon. Uhura is there in SNW so she sees the Gorn, but when she sees them on TOS she recoils in disgust and surprise. Plus TOS Gorns wear clothes. I enjoyed the adventure of it - big space battles - but the Gorn anomaly is annoying. S3e2 is an alternate episode where Spock marries Chapel. It's manipulated by a Trelane-like being played by Rhys Darby. The monster Easter egg here is that the story ends like The Squire of Gothos (TOS) with the energy ball being 'parents' coming in the rectify all the problems caused by their 8000+ year old child. That is voiced by John de Lancie, who played Q. I have always thought that Trelane was a being like Q. It's been asserted in ST Beta canon. This ep was on the silly side, but the Trelane connection is never detailed - I respect that. For those who know trek, it's obvs and brilliant. It just warps over the heads of nooBs. Additionally, there's a point when Spock punches out Chapel's fiancee. That's also never explained but true Trekkies can connect it to the emotional state Vulcans enter in the kal-if-fee. The Spock/Chapel romance is also defiant of TOS canon, but the new cast is owning their variation like the Kelvin timeline. And TNG Chapel is uber hawt. Don't say Prodigy RE: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Drunk Monk - 07-28-2025 A zombie ep! It was so sustaining to come home to a fresh ep RE: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Drunk Monk - 07-31-2025 This is the ep that was previewed in Hall H RE: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Drunk Monk - 08-13-2025 E5 wasa bit of a dud, the first mediocre ep of the season. It had to do with some sort of cause/effect warp, kind of a tomb raider story, but ultimately it defaulted to too much technobabble as ST can do. Perhaps it would've been better if I had a better grasp of what they were talking about. RE: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Drunk Monk - 08-17-2025 E6 was a Kirk ep - his first time in the chair. It was ok - interesting take on his early character development. Thought they were going to reference the Kobayashi Maru, which was set up by Spock in the Kelvin timeline. Not sure if SNW timeline haas a name yet. Also Pelia claims she was a roadie for the Dead. RE: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Drunk Monk - 08-22-2025 What is Starfleet? (ep7) started out a bit rough. It was done in documentary style, the premise being Erica's brother tasked to make a documentary. It opened with a statement from Starfleet, and was done with an 'amateur' cinematographic style where the 'official' Enterprise cameras were footnoted. SNW is always pushing boundaries, like it should, some work, some don't. This wasn't quite working for me because Erica's bro was labelling Starfleet as colonizers, which it kinda is sometimes, but his character, and the ultimate resolution of his story, wasn't that satisfactory. The mission was about a space kaiju that was weaponized - a moral dilemma for the crew. As the documentary progressed, there were some snapshots of the crews' backstories - Spock, Uhura, Dr. M'Benga - not overly revelatory but well done. And then the resolution was beautiful. The ultimate definition of the Starfleet was spot on. Gave me the feels. Gotta hand it to SNW. They keep it coming in fresh new ways. |
