RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-22-2020 (06-22-2020, 04:38 PM)Greg Wrote: Time to get Patrick to make you the Ronin Life logo for a t-shirt. Patrick no longer works for me. I had something back when I was doing a lot of freelance work, but I can't remember what it was for the life of me... RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-23-2020 Day 93- 3am. tweakin over my laptop woes. a web search revealed surface pro charger cords die quickly. got one on reorder online but i could only get it to the shopping cart, not finish the order because my chromebook wasn't up to the task. never get a chromebook. never. strugglin to stay online here as it is. today i hope to close a credit union account in fremont and swing by tc to return some borrowed weapons, check in, and pick up a few odd things. then over to my mom's to check in and do her chores. then set up my room for a zoom vid interview tomorrow morning (need to get questions in place beforehand too). wed morn is that interview and i'll be less stressed when that is done. then i can focus on writing that article. RE: Sheltering in Place - cranefly - 06-23-2020 (06-22-2020, 01:52 PM)Drunk Monk Wrote: Well, I can't find a new power cord anywhere but online - or I have to make it for Dublin. I'll have to order that next. Will you be in striking distance of Dublin when at TC? If I understand you correctly... RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-23-2020 I will be but I don't have the time today. Besides I read a few reviews last night that Surface Pro charger cords are prone to breakage so I ordered another compatible version with higher ratings (and like a fifth of the price) online. Should be here by next week. Hopefully I can keep it going with the intermittent charger until that time. RE: Sheltering in Place - cranefly - 06-23-2020 Yeah, LCF has had all kinds of power cord problems with her laptops. She's hard on them, moves them around (it's what they're for, after all), maybe runs over them with desk chair wheels, etc. Sometimes they develop a hairline short in the cord, and you have to play around draping the cord just right to get continuity. I had the connector break on my laptop motherboard once. Took it all apart, was appalled at the number of screws and extreme level of disassembly, soldered the connector back on, and put it all back together. Sort of. Several leftover screws. But it worked. For a time. Good luck with it. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-23-2020 Thanks. I think everyone has charger cord issues. I've had plenty with my phone chargers. It's just that the timing of this one is extreme because I have some urgent tasks and now I'm switching back and forth between laptops. Bother. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-24-2020 Day 94: Today starts with my mom's housecleaners coming over. They are usually very efficient and should be done before the interview. That'll be at 10-11 and I've cleared a spot in my old room (where I am right now) as a backdrop. My room is dark. I painted the walls dark blue and the closet doors black as a teen. I wanted it all black but my parents wouldn't let me. We compromised with dark blue. It'll be dark but it'll work for Zoom. No one will be looking at me anyway. They will be looking at my star interviewee, Daniel Wu. I might stay here until lunch afterwards to chip out the article. My mom has good wifi, an add-on to her xfinity that I insisted upon when I was telecommuting from here. I now have three articles in progress - this and two interviews. That feels good, like old times. Two of those interviews are Q&A so I just need to write the intros and submit questions. The other is an adjunct to the Daniel Wu vid. I was just nibbling at those a bit just now. Then home to Stacy & puppers and away from this gawdforsaken land of allergens. I must've lost a gallon of snot through my nostrils this evening. Things settled after a long bath but my face still hurts. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-24-2020 Housecleaners done. Mom watching Murder She Wrote. I'm chipping at my 3 interview notes, focusing in on Daniel. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-25-2020 Day 95: I have a telemeeting with ymnotca. I'm juggling too much right at the moment and I'm going to tell them they missed their chance at me for now, but if something solid opens up with their company later, I may be open. After lunch, I'm heading to 5BU to look at a space to build into a studio. I may hang out there to write, hopping their wifi. I'm also looking at building a small dog house... for puppers, not me. He's gravitated to a nook near the washing machine but we want to keep him from chewing on the cables and hoses. He chewed up our twinkle light cord in the living room. We weren't really using those anyway. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-26-2020 Day 96: I had to get up to pee which woke up Yuki. Now we're both up. Today I hope to catch up on some writing and build that dog barricade (it's been downgraded from dog house because I realized how limited my ability to cut wood presently). Aw now he's whining. Not sure what's up with him. RE: Sheltering in Place - Greg - 06-26-2020 Yuki! The problem with Yuki is that he's a puppy. And if Maeve is any indicator, Yuki's whining will stop sometime after never... RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-27-2020 Day 97: I gotta reinforce the washer barrier. Yuki burrowed behind the dryer and hid. Scared me. Thought he got out. RE: Sheltering in Place - Greg - 06-27-2020 Puppies! It's always a battle. With all my puppies, I just know that everything had to be above shoulder height or it would be eaten. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-27-2020 Yuki is small, about the size of Jingles now. He's got big paws so he'll get larger (estimated 30-40 lbs - still a smaller dog) but he has trouble getting over the back door step at this point. That'll change. It's only been a week and we are already seeing learning. Plus he's a burrower so once he figures out digging, that'll be a new game. He likes to tuck into tight nooks, like behind the washing machine, or just last night he found a spot between the vacuum cleaner and a yoga bolster leaned up on the vacuum. He's a bit sneaky and gave me a good scare last night with his disappearing act. But yeah, it's always a battle. On every front. That's Ronin life...with a dog. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-28-2020 Day 98: Still got to work on that barrier. I wedged an empty cardboard box in between the washer and dryer, which works as a temp fix to the new issue of Yuki sneaking between the two for now, but the main barrier (now blocked by an empty plastic bin) needs improvement. Today is also laundry, submitting interview questions for Den & Immortal/KFM, and answering some vid questions for the Immortal campaign (gotta do this twice - landscape and portrait - for the different media). |
