Day 87. Dang, it's almost 2 in the morning. I was working late, putting together a review for Den of Geek. I'll do a DOOM review later. I really need to get to sleep. I have a meeting on 5BU campus tomorrow to do some filming, then over to my mom's. I'll probably stay two nights because I have several chores to take care of there and that would give me more leeway.

Day 88. I’m sure glad I’ve been keeping count. Today is toilet fixing day at my mom’s. yay? I’m staying an extra night tonight to deal with some assorted chores here and to give Stacy some space. 88 days of me is more than anyone can take.

She obviously deserves a medal. Good luck with the toilet. Plumbing repairs never take the first time. It's the law. What's the over/under on trips to the hardware store? I'm going with 3.

don't jinx me bro

i forgot my plumber's putty at home. been meaning to put that in my daypack for two feckin weeks. is it necessary?

RE: Sheltering in Place - Greg - 06-17-2020

Only if you don't like leaks.

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-17-2020

dammit.

maybe my dad has some tucked in the garage.  of course, that would be well over a decade old.

If you have a good rubber gasket, you should be fine. Plumbers putty is mainly used for flanges at drains.

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-17-2020

yeah, that's why i have some. i used it replacing a drain in the bungalow (which i miffed - only worked for a short while until we had to contact the property manager and get a real plumber).

the anchor kit comes with gaskets. and of course, they give you 3 in a kit when you only need 2.

Onward Christian soldiers!

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-17-2020

I'm not Christian.

And I'm giving up. Almost had it and then I think I cracked the main valve setting the gasket.

So we're calling in a pro. They can fix the other toilet too, which leaks into the bowl, wasting water.

Fortunately, my mom's house has three toilets.

Sometimes you can stop leaking into the bowl by tightening the bolts that hold the tank to the bowl. But if you've got the plumber coming anyway....

Been there. Done that.

Just gave myself another Covid haircut with the dog clippers. I look swell. But less hairy.

Next time use fire. This comment applies to both DM and G-Man

It's a pretty useful statement

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 06-17-2020

Yeah, it was totally stupid. I thought I had it. But then when I was trying to line up the gasket up with anchor bolt, I tilted the tank and broke the seal. I probably could fix it but it would take time and effort and I'd probably break it even more, so I'm stopping.

The leak into the bowl is because the flapper and gasket are old...I think. Again, I probably could fix that if I put my mind to it, but I don't really have the mind or the time or the energy to allocate to that right now. And my mom can afford a plumber to get it right.

I did manage to fix the gate latch. I used my dad's old manual hand drill even. So there's that.
