RE: San Diego Comic-Con 2009 - Drunk Monk - 07-19-2019

Standing in line for GOT panel. I don’t watch GOT but Tara does. Been here for an hour. Probably another hour to go. The lines here make Disneyland look like an express checkbook out

RE: San Diego Comic-Con 2009 - Drunk Monk - 07-19-2019

Still in Hall H line. Made friends with our neighbors. It’s been fun. We will know soon if we’ll make it in. It depends how many leave Dark Crystal. Preacher panel is after GOT, but if we don’t make it, we’ll probably bail.

There is a massive tent camp already for the Marvel panel. That’s tomorrow. Tomorrow night.

So
Freakin
Close...

Closer...

It’s started and they are letting small batches to fill. Haven’t cut it off yet. Suspense is killin us.

IN THE HOUSE!!!

RE: San Diego Comic-Con 2009 - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 07-19-2019

Woo-HOO!

RE: San Diego Comic-Con 2009 - Drunk Monk - 07-19-2019

That was so close. We were the last admitted for the last half hour of the panel after about a 3 hour wait. Tara was totally fangirling. I dont watch GoT because I’m sure I’ll get hooked so I’m waiting until I have the time to binge it. But now I feel obligated. The cast was very heartfelt, a victory lap panel.

RE: San Diego Comic-Con 2009 - Drunk Monk - 07-19-2019

Spent the bulk of today in line so only 3.8 miles.

Tomorrow is mostly panels & more shopping. I’m thinking I want to official lid. It’s embroidered but I have to go to a different building to get it. Also might try to see the Picard exhibit at a nearby art gallery. Tara is into Brooklyn 99 so there’s a panel & experience.

RE: San Diego Comic-Con 2009 - Greg - 07-20-2019

Did you get a Fitbit? I approve of Tara's appreciation of Brooklyn 99. How that show fits into Comic-Con I have no idea.

RE: San Diego Comic-Con 2009 - Drunk Monk - 07-20-2019

No Fitbit. Activated the iPhone function. Shoulda done this years ago.

Comic con is now advertised as ‘pop culture’. There’s a huge NBC experience that offers Brooklyn 99, superstore & the good place. It’s outside the convention center with pop up constructions & a restaurant repurposed as a good place pancake house.

Tara is still sleeping (college student) so I’ve been playing with the cat and reading some of the sdcc materials. I should mention there are vast sections that we’re skipping. Sdcc happens across about a dozen hotels, the library, gaslight district and the new sdcc museum (which has an epic Batman’s display but is rather far). We’ve been in the main halls and gaslight but we’ll have to hit one of the hotels to get that official lid. That’s also where my friend Mimi’s talk will be but I already bumped into her so I’m not committed to that despite her pleas for me to attend (she’s in a bad slot competing against so many major panels). No fomo tho. There’s so much that there is simply no way to see even a fraction of it.

We were told by some locals that a decade ago you could just walk in and get tix, that it really blew up when Twilight held a panel. There’s a swag program that reviews all 50 years that I’ll read later - it charts stats etc. Yesterday was a bit awkward with Tara’s roommate and bf because they aren’t really nerds. We got a nice dinner at a local Thai veg place nearby their apt.

Tara shares her apt with 3 gals - 2 share one room, another is in the living room and Tara has the bigger bedroom with Shiva (she pays more because of the cat). I’m sleeping in Tara’s room with Shiva while she’s been sleeping on the sofa. Yesterday morn while I was waiting, Shiva sat next to me on the bed, stared at me and peed. Feckin cat. I’m trying not to take that personally but it was definitely a cat comment. Aside from that moment, Shiva and I have been having a sweet reunion, playing petting & purring.

If you like watching cats pee, have I got the vacation destination for you.

RE: San Diego Comic-Con 2009 - Drunk Monk - 07-20-2019

Definitely the low point of this trip. I was amazed how much pee comes out of a cat tho.

RE: San Diego Comic-Con 2009 - Drunk Monk - 07-20-2019

Today is outrageous

Gas lamp is a scene - mass cosplay, parades, marching bands, giveaways

RE: San Diego Comic-Con 2009 - Drunk Monk - 07-20-2019

Well we didn’t do anything as planned. Lines were massive so we just walked the exhibition halls and crowd watched. Bought some stuff. Had a lot of fun fan chats. No Badlands stuff anywhere. It’s as if that show never existed.

Now in the B99 line which is huge but we’re outside and have a view of sea.

RE: San Diego Comic-Con 2009 - Drunk Monk - 07-20-2019

Failed getting into B99 - not even close. Didn’t see a single panel. Most of the Day was spent shopping. Saw Lando and the cast of the Flash.

Went out to gaslamp after and it was so crazy. Packed with cosplayers.

Back at the apt now.

6.5 miles.

This is what I needed from SDCC:
