No. Just no - Greg - 12-20-2016

Erg. Arg. Stop it.

Get well soon. For once I don't need pictures.

Yeeeeoooowwww!!! - Drunk Monk - 12-20-2016

Now I bet you wished you trained with GM Tu.

Yes, my legs are crossed tightly right now, wincing at the thought.

Let us know if you need anything - except for a penis bone.

Doom event! - cranefly - 12-20-2016

I really think this calls for a DOOM gathering on Xmas Eve.
After a wonderful evening of watching castration horror flicks (to build up our courage), we'll draw straws, and the winner gets to...

Pull The String.

Then again, getting together on Xmas eve seems unlikely, so, I'll just say ... good luck.  Really.  I mean, like, really.

I'm sure medicine has advanced significantly beyond that "Deadwood" scene.

Right?

Right?

Diabetes - Drunk Monk - 01-27-2017

Im coming to grips with diabetes. Cutting out sweets hasn't been hard because I don't really have a sweet tooth (but now that it's forbidden fruit, there's more appeal). Cutting out carbs has been rough - rice, pasta and potatoes were major staples. But the killer is I can't drink beer like before. I went on a Cruz pub crawl last Saturday and felt it for days. Now I must limit my intake dramatically particularly with beer. Ireland was my last hurrah. It wrecked me for Guinness anyway. Now when I drink Guinness, I'm only reminded on how much better it was in Ireland, and that I'll have to go all the way back just to taste that again.

I can still drink whiskey in very moderate amounts, at least compared to some of my usual binges. Hard to get drunk on those quantities. Should I change my DOOM forum moniker? Or can we just take that as symbolic from now on?

Can't undo the brain - cranefly - 01-27-2017

I figure alcohol has been instrumental in shaping your brain.  And the brain isn't something you can just quit.  So I think you're DM for life.

Giving up rice/pasta would be very difficult. I'm sorry that you have to. At least a little whisky for consolation...

Psoriasis! - Greg - 04-17-2017

Boy, this thread is getting long. And quite diverse.

Six months ago I noticed large red splotches on my elbows and my thighs. I told my doctor and at first she thought I had some sort of deadly fungus and reacted in alarm to the sight of it. But she calmed down and diagnosed me. She gave me some steroid cream and sent me on my way.

Well, the cream didn't work. But I keep thinking this psoriasis is no big deal. It's just red patches right? In many cases they itch or are painful, but in my case, they feel fine. Unless I accidentally scratch one of them. Then, it's like I put a hot match on my body. For instance, this morning Dani jumped up to bite her leash, she caught one of the patches on the back of my hand with her teeth. It felt somebody shoved a nail through there. But other than that, it's all good. I can live with red spots.

The internet would have me think differently. Since I did a search on the internet, I get psoriasis ads in my Facebook feed every day. Plus, there is a plethora of ads on TV about the dangers of psoriasis and the cure. Although the side effects for these cures make me want to stick with the psoriasis.

Except for the fact that Psoriasis can lead to psoriatic arthritis. See, psoriasis is your bodies immune system overreacting and creating more skin to fight damage that hasn't occurred. It also leads to pain in your joints. Which I don't have. Knock on wood.

Also, the red spots are appear on more spots on my body. Before it was just localized to my elbows and a small patch on my thigh. Now, I have red dots up and down my legs and arms. The small patches have grown in size, too. Soon, I'll be a giant red blob.

This Thursday, I have my biannual check up. I guess my doctor and I are going to have another thing to talk about.

Perhaps it is just the slow onset of superpowers?

I wish! I can be Crusty Man!

Not to be confused with Krusty from The Simpsons, to be sure.

Those damned genes - cranefly - 04-17-2017

You might want to check with ancestry.com.  Could be you're a good chunk American Indian, and those genes are just now starting to express.

I worked for many years with a guy with psoriasis over 75% of his body.  He talked openly about all his medical travails.  Not fun.
But this guy had been battling it from a young age, and he'd fallen off the proper treatment protocol numerous times.
When treated, I think it can almost always be contained, and affected areas greatly reduced.

May you have a good outcome with this.

And you're right.  This thread is getting scarily long.  I have something minor to contribute, but am going to hijack another thread for it just to be troublesome.

ew - Drunk Monk - 04-17-2017

I got spots too.  I hope I didn't catch them from you, Greg.  I told you we should've used protection.

Actually, my spots sound minor in comparison.  I've got a small flaky red spot on my shin which I've been killing with silvadene and tea tree oil.  Almost gone.  I'm more worried about the spots on my naughty bits.

This is the thread that will outlive all of us.  Dodgy

RE: I'm more broken than you - Greg - 04-17-2017

It was kind of awkward when I went to to do the blood test and in the crook of my arm were all these splotches. I was afraid the nurse was going to refuse, but he just jammed away with the needle.

Your approach to a cure sounds much more holistic.

RE: I'm more broken than you - King Bob - 04-17-2017

I just got over a weird skin thing myself. It started as blisters, which I thought was a heat rash (it was where I cross my legs when asleep, although I've never had a blistery heat rash) but then they broke and then turned to crusty scabs that oozed. And it itched like crazy. And it spread over my legs and around my elbows. And the worst patch was surrounded by darkened and slightly hardened skin. The doctor thought impetigo, but wasn't. Went to the dermatologist who not reassuringly said it was weird and didn't know what it was. And he biopsied the dark area. But he did give me antibiotics, an anti-fungal cream and a steroid cream, and it cleared up. Although it seems I am going to be scarred by dark patches on my legs. But he never did find out what it was. On the plus side, I had an incision site from my operation that wouldn't close and kept draining, and when I went on all these antibiotics it closed and healed (although first it got scabby like the rest of me). So I don't have to go back for surgery to remove the stitch, which is what the surgeon wanted to do.

When I got my stitches from the biopsy out, the nurse said that often they never can figure out what skin problems are, they just try to treat them.

RE: I'm more broken than you - Greg - 04-17-2017

I'm beginning to think they can never find the cause of anything.
