Thanks & praises for gifting me this last week. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. Sly & Robbie give Grace such a solid foundation for her sound. The covers are cheeky fun and there’s some sweet tracks. The version of Slave to the Rhythm has such a long instrumental intro but I can imagine Grace vamping it up during those sections without vocals - her style is so much of her performance.
The first disc isn’t great for driving - too many sirens and car crash screeches, especially in She’s Lost Control. Those are unsettling to hear when driving.
My fav track is her Ring of Fire cover. Had that on repeat for a while. It deploys a precursor of the no-no-no riddem, which is one of my all time favs (unfortunately the bassline drops out of the YouTube version)

Ithink my favorite cover on there is Walking in the Rain. I actually had that album (Nightclubbing) back in the 80s. I bought it for that song.

Figures. That's where Robbie shows his agility. That's a fun song. I love the lines 'Feeling like a woman, looking like a man.' Only Grace could pull that off with such panache and authenticity.
I also like the take on Breakdown. I love that song. I just found a live version but it doesn't sound like Sly & Robbie on this one (but YouTube tends to strip the bass out which is why I generally disdain it for music).

That sounds right. He really liked that schtick Pato did where he rapped as fast as his drummer.
Sting teamed up with Shaggy for some tunes. Gotta keep in perspective how The Police came out of two tone, which came out of reggae.
