RE: House of the Dragon (2022) - Drunk Monk - 09-20-2022 Ya know, as I was tuning in I was thinking of snide comments and figured some snarky mention of a black Targaryen with platinum locks. And then...well... near etnough. This hit a lot of the right buttons for GoT (the series) fans - sex, politrix, and brutal ultravi - like real horrorshow ultravi. The juxtaposition of the Caesarean with the tilting sanguinousity was on point. It had that regal pretentiousness and viceral bloodshed, all condensed into an ep a little more than an hour. Tight work and I was engaged. The fight choreo has improved. I disdained most of the choreo in GoT until the Battle of the Bastards, which is so redeeming, a masterpiece of battlefield choreo. This choreo is more shaky cam, one action = one cut, but it's done well and tells a coherent battle story. The tilting was good with that tilter's eye view. HotD does for GoT fans what RoP wished it had done for LotR fans. I see why there's more engagement with HotD than RoP. That's a solid win for HBO over Prime. I'll continue to watch both to see how it plays out but HotD was a slam dunk for GoT fans. D00M recommended (but only after watching all of GoT). Actually I should reread my GoT notes so I can remember it better myself. So, what happens? --tg RE: House of the Dragon (2022) - Greg - 09-23-2022 I'm not planning watching GoT until the books are done. No problem so far with HotD RE: House of the Dragon (2022) - Greg - 10-06-2022 Ep05 (?) Boy, does HotD hate birth. Or at least they want us to hate it. This is the flash forward episode where 10 years have passed and they have new leads for the Queen and the Princess. The king remains the same actor but it's been a rough ten years for him. Everyone has had a lot of kids including Daemon moping down where he is living now. The Dragons get to make an appearance. There is plenty of infighting over the father of the princesses's children since none of them look like the princess's husband. Only one sort of good fight in the training yard. RE: House of the Dragon (2022) - Drunk Monk - 10-06-2022 Sadly, I no longer have access to HBO. The person who's account I was coattailing upon let their subscription expire because they are now coattailing on someone else. RE: House of the Dragon (2022) - Greg - 10-06-2022 Goddamn pirates. Our HBO is part of our ATT phone package. RE: House of the Dragon (2022) - Drunk Monk - 10-06-2022 coattailers... ATT are the pirates. Actually, ATT is the oppressive empire. RE: House of the Dragon (2022) - thatguy - 10-07-2022 back in the days when they were selling PCs, and the gubment split up the bells, my dad used to refer to their logo as "The Death Star"... --tg RE: House of the Dragon (2022) - Greg - 10-12-2022 Ep07 Driftmark. In this episode they do for funerals what they've done for births. And there is a giant Ewww factor as two recent singles decide to hook up. It's kind of a static and slow episode as most of the action takes place in just a few settings. Lots of talky. But then, Ewwwww. RE: House of the Dragon (2022) - Greg - 12-04-2023 Season Two is coming in the summer of 2024 RE: House of the Dragon (2022) - Greg - 03-21-2024 Release date: June 16. |
