Maybe they should retitle it Deadfall.

Yes, I realize I'm a bit behind on this thread...

For the record, it would be really hard to swing a weighted rope between chair legs so it would impact Bond's bum like that.  I think the cfs will back me up on this as we all trained in chain whip and so have had to perform similar feats of coordination.  In the book, it was some sort of levered stick if memory serves.  That makes more sense.

Has anyone aside from me seen the first Casino Royale?  That was the made for TV version that preceded the comedy spoof and the Broccoli films.  It's really weird - an American Bond and Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre.  I saw it at a con many many years ago.

I think it was a slender board with a nail driven through it.  I read this in my teens, and was rather horrified to think that Bond's scrotum or perineum was being perforated like that.  I remember being somewhat relieved, though not entirely convinced, when a doctor later tells Bond that he didn't suffer any permanent damage.

My mom and I were reading the series at about the same time.  I think I asked her for a clarification of what was being done to Bond in that scene, because the damage seemed irreparable.

I think I also asked my mom about the Japanese fighters who could withdraw their testicles into their body and take terrific blows to the groin without injury.  That was another Bond book.

Yeah, when watching that scene with the weighted rope, I remembered that it was a stick with nail in the book, and wondered why they changed it.

That's a really odd memory of your mom.

If memory serves, they carved spy into Bond's forearm too.  His first mission was a fail in the book.

Here's my mom guarding the back 40 with her trusty hammer.

So, CF, “Hammer Time” has a different connotation for you than for the rest of us?

Scrotum hiding was in You only Live Twice courtesy of Tiger Tanaka. That always stayed with me.

I don't remember the boar scene at all in the book. I do remember them giving him a tattoo or mark on the back of his hand to show that he was a spy. It was eventually removed.

I didn't know there was anything before the Casino Royale spoof.

obviously given your iron crotch obsession... for me, that installment was all about yellow face and ninjas.  i award extra points for bond flicks with sword fights.

cf's recollection feels right to me but i don't remember a nail in the boar.  boars have tusks so they don't need nails.

It's terrible.  Very early, made for American TV.  Bond is the American and Leiter is the Brit.  It's as hard to find as the Star Wars Xmas Special because the Broccolis quashed it hard.  I saw it shown at some con many years ago, like my High School years.  I remember it was one of my first cons.  I don't even remember where it was.  San Jose maybe?  That was also a con where some one had working guns from Logan's Run that shot flame like a mini-blowtorch.  That really impressed me.

RE: No time to die - cranefly - 04-12-2020

I have an abnormal affinity for nails.  It taints my memory.

Here's the actual text:
Quote:There was a packet of Gauloises on the table and a lighter. Le Chiffre lit a cigarette and swallowed a mouthful of coffee from the glass. Then he picked up the cane carpet-beater and, resting the handle comfortably on his knee, allowed the flat trefoil base to lie on the floor directly under Bond’s chair
Something like this:

Better than some of the more recent Bond Themes. After watching the music video, I have a really good grip on the plot of this movie.

RE: No time to die - thatguy - 08-24-2021

It's been so long, did any of you remember that there was another Bond film coming?

This page: https://gizmodo.com/we-just-saw-10-action-packed-minutes-of-no-time-to-die-1847548795

Says:

Quote:After many delays, No Time to Die opens in the U.S. October 8.

I predict the actors will go on a press junket but will have forgotten all about it as well...

I've been waiting. I think that movie has been complete for at least two years.
