RE: Dune (again) - King Bob - 10-25-2021

San Jose is in the rain shadow of all the nearby mountains, but we still got a lot of rain (for us anyway). The persimmon tree fell over. Hopefully the roots didn't break too badly and I can just stake it up.

RE: Dune (again) - Drunk Monk - 10-25-2021

How big is that tree?

RE: Dune (again) - Greg - 10-25-2021

And once again a Doom thread has drifted merrily off course to the land beyond recognition.

RE: Dune (again) - King Bob - 10-25-2021

It's a small tree, only about 6 feet. Usually they are multi-trunked trees, but this one was trained as a single trunk, with a diameter about as big as my fingers making the OK sign. There was a stake, but it was rotten and broke. I hope to save it because there is a lot of fruit on it.

Lots of worms have been popping out of the ... sand?

Trying to nudge it back on course.

It's the D00M way, bruh.

Don't fight it.

Just give in. It'll be over soon.

And don't tell anyone where D00M touched you. That's our little D00M secret.

If there's enough water, we could talk about streaming...

Haven't even seen this movie yet but could predict this from the trailer...

RE: Dune (again) - Greg - 10-27-2021

Villanueve, the director, always said it was a two parter. He wanted to do both films simultaneously. The studio said let's see if one makes money first.

RE: Dune (again) - thatguy - 11-07-2021

Dune - watched on HBO. Good cast, good solid performances. Most of the actors, even Jason Momoa, fall into their roles. (It’s not like watching Sting play the Baron’s nephew.) the exception for me is Josh Brolin who always looks like Josh Brolin playing a character to me. Zendaya doesn’t have much screen time or speaking parts until the end.

The visuals are awesome. Soundtrack good. It’s been awhile since I read the book, but it seemed to be following the story well.

Spoilers

There’s a couple of scenes with the Baron that feel like callbacks to Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now. There aren’t any other obvious call backs and maybe this was unintentional, but it took me out of the story.

Bagpipes? In the year 10,xxx? Really?

Spoilers

I think the Apocalypse Now reference is intentional.

RE: Dune (again) - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 11-26-2021

Saw it. Enjoyed it. Treated the book well. Villanueva is my new fave director. This generation’s Ridley Scott

RE: Dune (again) - Greg - 11-27-2021

My big review still sits in the draft category. Maybe DM should go see Dune this weekend while he is footloose and fancy free....

RE: Dune (again) - Drunk Monk - 11-27-2021

Maybe. Eternals works better in my schedule. We’ll see.

RE: Dune (again) - Greg - 11-27-2021

It's the holiday. Go for two!
