Dude, I *am* large.

963.145. Work, dog park…

RE: Sheltering in Place - Greg - 11-18-2022

Work at the Dog Park!

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 11-18-2022

You know, I've thought about that - bringing my laptop to the dog park. But it's too chaotic there - never know when I've got to pick up poop, yell at Yuki to stop eating mud, or break up a dog fight that gets out of hand. Besides, the dog park has become my only social activity outside of the martial/music world. We have a good group of friends in the pack - all from different walks of life - and we enjoy each other's company.

I have done a telemeet there, or dealt with some email stuff on my lIephone.

Burn. Burn. Burn.

Although, I did mess up my knee building the burn pile yesterday. Once again amazed it's a lot of work to build a burn pile, especially when I have to climb up a hill carrying rotted logs.

Did I miss yesterday? Perhaps that’s a sign that I’m not really sheltering in place anymore.

Meh, who am I kidding? I’m always sheltering in place now. It’s the new norm.

965.147 - Skipping yoga today for a Tameshigeri session.

So here’s the backstory to my recent return to iaido. I met Merek Sensei at the dog park maybe a year or more ago. Yuki and his dog Ravi hit it off right away and we spotted each other as martial artists right away (martial artists have a radar for each other just like druggies, spies, lgbtqs, and deadheads). Merek studied with Dr Yang & Lee Holden (local qigong expert and part of the YMAA stable). He knows Ted, where I train on Saturdays. We talked about doing a cutting session but his class is on Thursdays when I’m at Ted’s.

Fast forward to 147 days ago when my left shoulder goes out in a catastrophic way. It’s manageable now thanks to the nightly neural Med I take but my range of motion is limited, restricting my Shaolin. If I reach with my left the wrong way, it’s punishingly painful. I decided to return to iai, dropping my Thursday night Kung Fu, because iai doesn’t demand so much from my left arm.

Whilst at the helm of KFTC, I felt obligated to devote my practice time to Chinese arts. Now that Kfm is just part time, and since I restarted yoga, iai was calling to me. When my friend sent me that exquisite wakazashi, it felt like a sign.

It’s a fun class. I love the precision of iai. It’s small - the biggest class has been has been 5 including Merek. And one of his senior students is moving away soon, so we decided to go the session today, partly as a going away party. Also I suspect Merek is trying to rally his old students because he’s barely able to make enough to cover the practice space (the community center).

I’m excited. We’ll be cutting tatami which is expensive and I haven’t cut since Man at Arms. Hopefully I don’t cut myself.

A day without burning. Lots of limping on my gimpy knee.

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 11-21-2022

Ouch. Heal strong.

966.148 Monday work plus a quick errand to Palace Arts, & dog park.

RE: Sheltering in Place - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 11-21-2022

Back in my cave, again. Pizza Christmas ™ has now spawned Sushi Thanksgiving (still working on a marketable name) which was celebrated yesterday in Alameda. All Harknii were present as were soecial guests Queen of Evil & her Consort of Affability. As sushi-riffic time was had by all. Ice cream occurred later, back in H's hood at Joe's Ice Cream.

Today it was brunch with H & The Mitzvah Queen. The MQ, who might barely weigh 100lbs, matched me in ingestion of large omelette, hashbrowns, and 2 biscuits. Bestowing mitzvahs burns hella calories, it seems.

967.149: Straight up work day. Gotta out next week’s serving of Shaolin spam in place so I might enjoy the break. There’s a tech meeting with one of our new providers that a coworker signed me up for (thanks for putting more work on my plate). Not going to svale tonight. Saving it for t-day…

RE: Sheltering in Place - King Bob - 11-22-2022

Last work day this week. Did some laser cutting at lunch. Making sculptures for the upcoming show.

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 11-23-2022

868.150: Work is supposed to be a half day for YMAA but I’ll work until I’m done. Gotta program the rest of the month and prep for Dec.

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 11-24-2022

869.151- T-day. Stacy cooked up lots of food. We’re going to my mom’s where we’ll meet Tara, Bri & Bottles. I’ll pick up my mom from her care home and bring her over - it’ll be the first time she comes back home since her fall. Then I’ll return her to the care home and we’ll go home. Seems like a lot for some reason.

I feel caught up on work so I can enjoy the long weekend. It was nice to not have to go over on Tuesday - a luxury to spend a full week in the Cruz.

RE: Sheltering in Place - Greg - 11-24-2022

A short hike this morning and then an afternoon of cooking.

RE: Sheltering in Place - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 11-24-2022

H started cooking a couple days ago and will continue today. My job is to keep her caffeinated and then move furniture. 6 or 7 people will arrive around 4:00.
