RE: Sheltering in Place - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 10-08-2022 (10-08-2022, 03:59 PM)King Bob Wrote: Went to SF to see the Guo Pei show at the Legion then Brunch at Villon in the Proper Hotel. The show was excellent and the decor of the hotel was great. Brunch was a bit pricey, but I knew that going in, and we almost never go anywhere so it was a treat. Nice! I've heard nothing but good about that exhibit. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-09-2022 Stacy & Tara saw the Guo Pei show and said it was enjoyable. I doubt I’ll get up there for it. There may have been fire dancers. I was there for the performance part of the symposium, just the lecture part. I had to jet out of there because Stacy got a tub for us at the well for our anniversary. Yuki came too. The well is dog friendly. But he doesn’t get hot tubs or saunas, being a dog with thick fur. 923.105. I really must work today as I did nothing yesterday and must prepare for next week’s journey. Our yoga instructor is out of town so we said we’d do yoga on our own during our regular time. Stacy will lead because she can and I really have no idea about how to compose a session. I had a good solid Kung Fu workout yesterday - the first in 109 days since my nerve injury where I fully expressed qi. I only did half of my regimen because I gassed out and got dizzy. But I’m sore now so we’ll just see how yoga goes. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-10-2022 924.106 - Mondays. Work. Telemeet in a few. Got a lot done yesterday. Hopefully I don't get too much more work dumped upon me today. I need to get to my Den interview with Rajamouli as that's due soon (they were all at NYCC last weekend so too busy to pester me with a deadline). RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-11-2022 925.107: got one telemeet this morning then over to visit my mom quickly then off to Mono hot springs where we are spending 3 nights to celebrate our anniversary. A short getaway. First time we’re going there. We have a cabin and it allows dogs. There’s Wi-Fi so I can keep up with work and more importantly , post here. RE: Sheltering in Place - Greg - 10-11-2022 I'm glad you have your priorities in order. Have a lovely celebration. My first thought was 'What about Yuki?' RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-11-2022 He's the main reason why we're trying these new springs. Stacy searched for someplace that was dog friendly because our regular ones are not. And Thank You Cobra Kai for giving me the extra $cratch to afford this getaway. RE: Sheltering in Place - Greg - 10-11-2022 Excellent. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-12-2022 926.108 So I'm back in the Ansel Adams wilderness, but this time with wifi. We can see the range from the other side in the distance. Wifi is okay (we'll see how it goes for tomorrow's meetings but I've made special arrangements to use the restaurant wifi which is stronger - not as used - and in the restaurant which doesn't open until the evening). I'll check that out after 1pm when the restauranteer gets there. The tricky thing is power. All the cabins have lights but no outlets because it's solar driven. There are generators which I can tap but I must leave my hardware there. The road to get in here was challenging - windy, edging cliffs, single lane, with a surprising number of trucks barrelling up the opposite direction. The last 20 miles took nearly two hours because it was 10mph in several places. The complex is ok. Yuki can be leashed on the grounds, but not in the store, the restaurant, or the bathhouse, which is a bit awkward because we can't bathe together - one of us has to stay with Yukz. There are some natural hot springs that we can hike to so maybe that'll work out. This is national forest so dogs are permitted on the trails, along with bikers, hunters, fishers, and trumpers. We didn't get that much time to check stuff out yesterday because we got in just before sunset. We explore today. RE: Sheltering in Place - King Bob - 10-12-2022 Sounds like DM needs his own battery and solar panel. RE: Sheltering in Place - Greg - 10-12-2022 I was just going through the website for Mono Hot Springs and saw the bit about no power outlets. That would be a problem in our need to recharge our devices world. I'm sure Stacy is loving it. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-12-2022 I really should invest in a solar panel. I’m sure I could write that off. The only reason I’m online out here is for work (& D00M). Stacy made me her wordle surrogate this morning. She solved it in 4. The word was 'bathe' Yuki is kinda freaked out about this trip. He was panting nervously for most of the 5.5 hour ride here and is defensive about our little cabin. Hope he settles down soon. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-12-2022 Checked out the tubs. They're ok. The water isn't that hot but it's got that wonderful silky mineral quality, healing I hope. There aren't many tubs but no one's using them. Went to find the natural springs and discovered the log bridge that we must cross is just that, a sketchy steep log, so we hiked up to try to find the lake. They only gave us a 'disneyland' map, with cartoon images and no scale or sense of climb. The hike turned out to be a ballbuster - steep and rocky in the hot sun - and we didn't bring water for Yuki. I used that as an excuse to turn around before making it to the first lake. The map only said one mile but we were well over a mile in to where it said that mile began. I wimped out. My knee was bugging me and I was feeling dehydrated. We did get back into the Ansel Adams wilderness again however. On the way back, Stacy joked that one of these days, we'll go on a vacation that's actually relaxing, insttead of wrought with exhausting moments (we're at 7K+ feet and I'm feeling it). Yuki had fun chasing lizards tho. RE: Sheltering in Place - Greg - 10-12-2022 Hmm, there was a nice video on their web site showing how to get to all of the outdoor hot springs. Didn't look too hard except for one. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-13-2022 927.109 After somewhat of a shuffle, I did manage to secure the restaurant access and was only a bit late to my telemeet. I'm a the restaurant now, where I'll be all morning. It's quiet. Just me and a big ol' bison head mounted on the wall. Access is sluggish but workable. I brought the wrong charging cord for my LiEphone, but I'll make it through to tomorrow when we leave. I'll be here until lunch time. Stacy and Yuki will try to make it to the lake whilst I work. We found the 'wild' tubs and they were ok. Old Pedro was the hottest and nicest and Stacy proclaimed it as the best. The hillside across the river is filled with outdoor tubs and pools of varying heat and quality. Some are crumbling cement structures, little more than a tub pit (some date back to the 1930s). Others are just muddy pools. The area is labelled 'mud baths' and true to form, very muddy. Yuki's whole bottom half was black with mud, but we think it was good for his paws. The sketch log bridge is actually two logs tied together. From the angle we observed, we thought it was just one. Yuki crossed it after much coercion. He jumped in the rivier to meet another dog, only to discover that it was deeper than he thought and struggled to get back up the granite rock, almost taking Stacy in while we were trying to help. At least, it washed off the mud. We've got a much better sense of the place should we return. It has it's good qualities - beautiful setting, decent amenities, some cool pools. The water is good, not very odiferious or sulphery, transforming my skin to its lustrous state, at least where there is no scar tissue - but even that seems reduced. RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 10-13-2022 work is done. just some odd tasks tomorrow that i can handle on my hone. now i can put away my laptop and relax... |
