Greg & tQ FTW

But I get second place for new carpet...

I always get 2nd... Undecided

RE: Sheltering in Place - Greg - 03-09-2022

Sloppy?

RE: Sheltering in Place - King Bob - 03-09-2022

Today you're third DM. We cleaned out the conference room and the department chair brought samosas. They were delicious.

RE: Sheltering in Place - Greg - 03-09-2022

Um, Mimosas? Or some weird Girl Scout Cookie?

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 03-09-2022

Samosas with chutney?

Clinging to the lowest step on the podium…

RE: Sheltering in Place - Greg - 03-09-2022

Well CF did win the internet.

RE: Sheltering in Place - King Bob - 03-09-2022

With chutney, of course.

RE: Sheltering in Place - Drunk Monk - 03-09-2022

Had to clarify for our Girl Scout drinker.

717: Only 2 telemeets today - new rhythm for work finally settling in. Then Kung Fu. My practice has sucked lately. All the bsl peeps have left so I don’t have anyone to motivate me. I’ve added to my regimen to counterbalance but it’s not working. Maybe this is the year of my last fornado kicks…

More hiking. tQ is on mini-vacation. Oh, the places we will go.

I don't really want to manage students, but I'll get access to a laser cutter and 3D printer, so it should be worth it. I just need to learn how to use them.

As a bonus, the guy I met with has his office in the Hammer Theater, and he gave me a tour of all the backstage areas.

it looks like Sunnyvale Library is doing a free online intro to 3D printing class on 3/15

Quote:Introduction to 3D Printing Online

Join us for a beginner's look at 3D printing with the talented minds at Maker101, a locally owned and run makerspace. This program will cover how 3D printing works and how a 3D printer functions, as well as the basics of 3D printing. The presenters will also provide instructions and resource for finding and preparing 3D models to print. At the end of the program attendees can print out a model of their choice for free.

My old workplace. That was my first 'real' job coming out of college. I was in their media center which oversaw vinyl, VHS, and a new catalog of CDs, plus 3 publish use puters: a PC, a Mac, and a commodore. I was the only employee there who owned a CD player back then so I was the checker for CD complaints. And I learned one of my many now obsolete skills alongside sword fighting, how to splice and repair VHS tapes.

I wonder if any of my past coworkers are still there. That was 35+ years ago.

I've got access to the modeling software (free from Autodesk for university people) and the tech from the Design dept. (or one of the student assistants) is going to show me how to run the machine. I've watched a couple of videos on YouTube and it seems pretty straightforward unless your print design is flawed. The cutlery basket on our dish rack is broken, so I might print a new one. And I've got several sculpture ideas that would be much easier to print than carve.

As for laser cutting, I took a class years ago at Visual Philosophy, but have forgotten most of it. I just got the manual for the cutter to refresh my memory, and now I think I've mostly got it. And there's lots of stuff on YouTube. Fortunately the machine has presets for a bunch of materials; you just pick it from the list and set the thickness. I'm know going to cut some sculptures from plex, and also try etching one of my black and white drawings onto clear (or at least transparent) plex to see how that looks. I also thought about cutting plywood to make woodblock prints.

And I think the laser is green but it's supposedly dangerous to look in there while it's cutting so I'm not sure.

Today I'm home (work from home day) and the cable guy is coming. Our internet is ridiculously slow. We've been here 11 years and never upgraded from the 12Mbps plan, and now the 500 Mbps plan costs almost the same. It's like $5 more a month.

My mom was a book repair technician there for decades.

Really? What years? I wonder if we overlapped?
