Extraordinary Attorney Woo - Drunk Monk - 07-30-2022
The latest K-TV trend. It centers around an idiot savant - an austistic attorney who has an eidetic memory for everything she reads. She’s also really into whales. 10 hour+ eps and I’m already 3 deep.
It’s charming, almost a rom com, but then drops those emotional depth charges as K-cinema does. The lead Woo Yong Woo (Park Eun-bin) is super cute in her depiction of an autistic, although minimally realistic. Her name is a K-palindrome. She always eats the same kimbap (sushi) and rants on about whales. When she solves a key piece of the episode’s trial puzzle, her hair blows back dramatically and she has a vision of some cetacean breaching.
I found it distractingly entertaining and loved the e2 mcguffin. I’m not committed to this but I’ll surely watch a few more episodes.
Not D00M recommended. Too sweet for you lot. Y’all need and deserve saltier fare.:

2 more eps in. E4 got way too sweet, so much so it sent my blood sugar through the roof. E5 got a bit vicious in a funny way but needed more whales. I’m now halfway through.
I’m eager for Woo to see a real whale.

E6 offered a whale explanation and it was quite poignant. The rom part of the rom-com is emerging. Still wondering why I’m watching this. Im guessing it’s a side effect of the nortriptylene.

Turns out there are new eps every Thursday so I’m not halfway through - there are 16 eps now and tomorrow there will be 17

The main mystery behind Woo’s past is revealed in an emotional tour de force. So sweet.
Turns out there are 16 eps to the season but only 11 (12 tomorrow) are netflixable.

Yeah, not engaging Carter or Sandman right yet. My post OSL noggin needs something mindless & fluffy.
This ep had a bit of a tone change. The crime was questionable - borderline disturbing if thought about with any depth but played off lightly. Woo’s whale vision wasn’t just a spliced in cetacean clip. It was a big cgi whale floating through the set. The romance blossoms. And at the end, the next story arc is introduced.

E10 a challenging case - was it love or rape when the guy is a ‘gigalo bastard’ and the gal is mentally handicapped? Particularly challenging for Woo Young Woo as she enters into her first romance. Meanwhile in the greater story arc, her parents’ last is closing in.
I’ve decided it’s all about the actress who plays Woo. She’s captivating with her quirky interpretation of autism. I must see her in something else.

If you are talking about the Korean movie “Carter”, please, don’t do it. I fell on that grenade so you don’t have to. Go watch clouds for 90 minutes. Play with Yuki. Whatever, just don’t bother with this film.

E11 I was going to take a break from K-cinema after my action movie binging (still haven’t seen Carter) but one of our dog park friends said she was watching (unexpected - didn’t think she was into k-dramas) so I watched this ep over dinner.
It took a sudden vicious turn - very Gangnam style. Caught me off guard.
Still in but I do need to get off the k-sauce soon. Last night while completing my Den piece for tomorrow I was listening to k-pop on Spotify and now I’m craving noodles and bibimbop.
