Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - Greg - 12-09-2021 Just when I think I'm over Ryan Reynolds...... RE: Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - thatguy - 12-09-2021 "If you like Ted Lasso..." --tg RE: Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - Greg - 12-09-2021 I had the same thought. Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - Greg - 07-20-2022 Okay, this is going to be on FX but it will also stream on Hulu. I'm punting. I don't know where to put the trailer. But I will watch. RE: Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - Greg - 08-27-2022 Ep 01 is in the books. It's all about the decision to buy the club and then the vote to see if Ryan Reynolds and Rob MclHenny get to purchase the club. I won't spoil it for you but there are at least ten episodes for the show. It's being pitched as the real life Ted Lasso and I'm going to say no to that comparison. The show does a good primer on English Football and the different leagues involved. There is nice history of the town and what the football club means to the town ("It's not life or death. It's more important than that") I enjoyed it. Not a lot of fireworks. Most of the suspense for the show, which is built around whether the teams gets to move up to the more important leagues, is kind of spoiled by the fact there have been news reports about the show since it started filming. I will continue to watch and the Queen is on board as well. RE: Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - Greg - 08-27-2022 Thread merging complete. RE: Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - Greg - 09-01-2022 Ep02 The nadir. We should have seen this episode last week but FX aired Ep01 two times in a row rather showing Eps 01 & 02. So, we saw it on demand last night with all the commercials just like our parents did. And it was fun. The funniest bit was the Welsh translator who translated Rob and Ryan's welcome speech to the fans. She might have gone off script. The majority of the episode was wondering where the club was going to go now with the new ownership. The plan was to see if the team had a new spark that would carry them on into the playoffs which meant everyone would keep their jobs. Losses meant there would be a shakeup. You don't see a lot of Rob or Ryan in the show. It's mostly the team coaches and players and the townspeople. I'm excited there are two more episodes waiting on the DVR for me. RE: Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - Greg - 09-02-2022 Did two more episodes of soccer goodness. There is a laugh out loud funny bit in each episode. There are also some heart breaking moments. And if you are rebuilding a Welsh Soccer team it helps if you are rich TV & Film stars. They went out and got for themselves a premiere coach and premiere player for the new season. But the leap to the top of the standings isn't assured. And as soon as episode 03 ended tonight, the Queen said we need to watch Ep 04. RE: Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - Greg - 09-08-2022 Another two episodes down. I think Ep05 and Ep06. The Queen claimed confusion because the second episode was titled "Hamilton!" and wondered what the tie-in was to the musical. Ep05 was about the struggles the club is having to win. Since they spent a lot of money to put this team together, how do they now get the team to win. They are having lots of tie games. There was a big chunk on the goalies and how they are different breed. Rob and Ryan are only in the show for a short bit which I think will be the MO. We also got to hear a local band that wrote a song about the new ownership. It's not a very good song but the whole town is singing it, especially at the games. The final line is "Give us Deadpool and Rob" One of the band members is dealing with cancer and he just wants Wrexham to get promoted before he dies. Ep06 was weird. Ep05 left us on a cliffhanger to see how the team was doing. But Ep06, The Hamilton episode was all about the stadium and how the town had to struggle to save the team back in 2014. A developer came in named Alex Hamilton. He bought the team and the stadium. His big goal was to tear down the stadium and build houses on some prime land. The effects of that are still being felt today. Ryan and Rob want to buy the land from him and are having to go through all sorts of hoops to do that. Because they have been unable to buy the stadium, they have been unable to proceed with any of the improvements they want to make to the stadium. For instance one of the areas of the stadium has been condemned. It seems like this episode is out of place in the timeline. It should have come earlier. But oh well. Still watching. Need more episodes. RE: Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - Greg - 09-17-2022 I was afraid these were going to be the last two episode, but I checked and they will be doing eighteen just like a real show. Ep07 was all Rob and Ryan. They did riffs on Wild World of Sports, Sportscenter, A cooking show and a late night talk show. It was all background on Wales, Welsh Words and cooking, and how the team was doing. It was kind of fun. The Welsh translator popped up on the cooking show to insult them some more in Welsh. All the segments were amusing. Ep08 Rob and Ryan finally make it to England to see a game. It's an away game for Wrexham in Maidenhead. Every predicts Wrexham will crush Maidenhead. Things don't go according to plan. The best part were the chants from the Maidenhead fans yelling "You bought the wrong team, Ryan" The episodes need to be longer. RE: Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - Greg - 09-22-2022 Rather than release two half hour shows as they have been doing, Welcome to Wrexham Ep09 was an hour long episode. Ryan and Rob make their first visit to Wrexham to see a game and visit the town. And it's fun. The pair are mobbed everywhere they go. They get to sit on shirt decisions. They see their stadium. They try to match drinks with the locals at the pub on the Racecourse grounds. They should have been warned not to do that. And they finally got to see a home game. Too bad their star player was suspended for a game for a foul in the last game. Sucked in again to watching and staying up passed my bedtime. RE: Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - Greg - 09-30-2022 2 more episodes. Ep10 was about Hooliganism and Wrexham. Sure enough, Wrexham has Hooligan supporters. They showed some of the clashes after the game where Rob and Ryan attended. The saddest story was about a young woman dating a Hooligan. Her chance of becoming a detective was derailed when the vetting process showed she dated a Hooligan. Kind of a dark episode. Ep11 Kind of a montage episode with the managers job in question if he doesn't get some wins from the team. Spoiler: The team does go on a bit of a winning streak. They climb the rankings but still not quite top tier. The big problem for the club is that they are paying salaries like it is a next level club. RE: Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - Greg - 10-07-2022 Woohoo! There were four new episodes this week. Thankfully, my DVR only recorded three of them. Ep 12 Wins and Losses The team finally comes together and they start winning. But the show focuses on some of the players including one player who's pregnant girlfriend is having a difficult pregnancy. We also get a look at the new striker they brought in to help out Mullin. Ep 13 Bad Breaks. Wrexham plays the worst team in the league. And the way they kept highlighting the worst team in the league, you knew things were going to go badly. Ep 14 A Hollywood Distraction Ryan shows up with a film crew to make promo videos. Rob meanwhile is not pleased that Ryan is there without him, especially since the team wins a crucial match. Rob sulking makes this the funniest episode yet. RE: Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - Greg - 10-10-2022 Woohoo Ep15 recorded over night. In this episode Wrexham have to beat the Daggers and Stockport has to lose in order for them to get promoted. Unfortunately, it's a documentary and not a fairy tale. Wrexham's fate was out of their hands. I'm really enjoying this show despite knowing how it ends. RE: Welcome to Wrexham (2022) - Greg - 10-14-2022 Three more episodes recorded last night, including the season finale. We were going to watch all three until we realized the finale was an hour long. Ep16 Welcome to Wembley. Wrexham travel to Wembley for the Cup final. I knew how this one ended so there wasn't much suspense. Ryan and Rob play a big role in this episode. Ep17 This is mostly a recap, again, of how Rob and Ryan met and how they came to buy the team. There is a really annoying woman pseudo therapist talking about bromances throughout the episode. If I had editorial control, I would have cut her right out. |
