This is kinda like Bullet Train meets Snakes on a Plane without any snakes. Harnett is a washed up agent who gets a shot at redemption if he can capture the ‘ghost’ & his handler (Katee Sackoff) puts him on a plane with the asset and a bunch of assassins. My castmate Marko Zaror has 3rd billing and Juju Chan Szeto, who I’ve crossed paths with many times but we never really had a conversation plays a Wudang nun. It’s billed as coming from the same producers as John Wick and while it emulates the fight vibe or ultravi, it’s a different stunt team. That being said, it’s fairly entertaining action because it’s comedy. The fights are super violent and ratchet up the sanguinosity progressively until it goes full chainsaw. The high point was discovering Charithra Chandran who has a role in S2 of the live action One Piece. She’s got a fine screen presence and I look forward to more from her (she was in Brigerton but I couldn’t hang with that show at all). There’s also a fun drug trip fight. Ultimately it’s a lot of dumb drunken violence on a plane so if you’re into that sort of thing, this is amusing.

Just finished s1. It was a slog. I suppose i get it better now. Theres just this Star Wars cantina aspect to all the different species - like what are props & makeup gonna do today? Some of the other characters are warming up to me but I have the same issue with Odo as I did with Data - here’s this one of a kind being that doesn’t even quite know himself and yet they let him in starfleet (well, Odo isnt starfleet but you get my meaning). Sisko continues to impress and Dax, well, I was close to her in person at Galaxy con - she was across the isle from Worf when I interviewed him - and she’s still lovely.

Paramount Television Studios, a production facility originally aimed at getting Paramount Pictures back into the business of making TV series, will shut down, the latest bout of cost cutting by parent corporation Paramount Global as it seeks to eliminate $500 million amid a chaotic shift in the entertainment industry.
“This has been a challenging and transformative time for the entire industry, and sadly, our studio is not immune,” said Nicole Clemens, president of the unit, which debuted in 2013, in a memo to staffers. “Over the past 11 years, she said, the studio “has weathered seemingly insurmountable obstacles through a combination of strength, determination, and unwavering commitment. We met these challenges with incredible resilience, creativity, and passion for what we do, and I could not be prouder of our team. We’ve also had the privilege to collaborate with some of the most brilliant creative talent in the industry to help tell incredible stories seen around the world, entertaining and shaping culture.”
All current series and development projects made under the Paramount Television Studios umbrella will move to CBS Studios. 
Paramount Television marked the second time Paramount Pictures tried to move into the TV business — separate from the storied shingle that was built on the Desilu production studio founded by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. That studio, which backed such TV treasures as “I Love Lucy” and “Star Trek,” eventually became the center of Paramount Studios after an acquisition by Gulf + Western, and would be inherited by CBS after its split from the company formerly known as Viacom Inc. in 2005.
The new Paramount Television Studios helped boost the movie studio, which aimed to find ways to make programs tied to its many famous films, including the Jack Ryan spy movies or “The Godfather.” With more newly launched streamers hungry for content, the operating theory was that the new studio could help Paramount strike alliances with a bevy of new broadband players hungry for content.
Under its aegis, the company produced “The Offer,” an insider tale of the making of the landmark movie, for Paramount+; and series based on Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan character for Amazon Prime Video. Other series it produced include “The Spiderwick Chronicles for Roku and a revival of the Terry Gilliam movie “Time Bandits” that is now a series on Apple’s streaming service.
“I want to thank PTVS President Nicole Clemens and the talented team she built for the many signature hits they produced. Under Nicole’s leadership, this studio consistently punched above its weight in attracting top storytellers and stars to create best-in-class series. This movie is a slog. 30 min in you wonder if there's any way to watch at 1.5x or 2x because it's just sloooowwww....

It begins with a troubled birth sequence, from the point of view of the baby, then, a therapy session, then Beau survives the ordeal that is the city, to his refuge in a seedy apartment. It is just endless bad things happen to this person that is already not right in the head. It's told in various sections when usually transition when Beau is knocked out or asleep, and then wakes into a new ring of hell. It ends with a court like drama, not unlike the end of Pink Floyd's Wall, where a prosecutor lays out all Beau's failings in regards to his mother.

And it just ends. Then you look at your watch and are relieved that what felt like 3 hours of your life taken away was actually only 2 hours 59 minutes...

Nathan Lane, Parker Posey, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Richard Kind are some recognizable faces.

Here, she's a widow, escaping to a house in the country, after her abusive husband commits suicide. A creepy landlord shows off the place and hand her the key and then the slow thriller begins. She walks in the woods, plays with echos in an abandoned train tunnel and then thinks she's being followed and tries to get back to the house. Encounters a nekkid man in the distance, but, later nekkid man is poking around the house. She freaks out and calls the police. They come and arrest him. She goes to the the old church, encounters a young lad that looks a lot like the landlord. She goes in to see the stained glass and sees the font with the green man sculpted on the side. There are intermittent flashbacks to the penultimate argument with her husband. Then she meets the vicar, who also looks like the landlord. He tells her her husband's suicide was her fault. She storms off and goes to the pub where the bartender looks like the landlord. Oh, and the landlord is there. And a few other blokes, that all look like the landlord.
More hilarity ensues. The nekkid man has been released an is stalking her again. There's a lot of chasing and running and crazy.  At one point, he grabs here thru the mail slot in the door and she jams a knife into his arm. He slowly withdraws the arm, cleaving it in two, from the elbow to the middle of the hand. From then on his hand is split, but still functional. More chasing and running and crazy. Then the nekkid man, now full green man, injured, is limping towards her across the grounds, collapses and births a man sized baby that looks like the landlord. This creature pursues her, still injured, collapses and births another man sized baby that looks like the landlord. This happens multiple times. It's very Cronenburg.

From writer/director Alex Garland who wrote/directed Ex Machina.

Not doom recommended, but the hand-splitting and birthing sequences are pretty doomy.

We’ve got a new image thanks to Variety, who interviewed many of the Star Trek creatives. In addition, details about the upcoming Michelle Yeoh-led movie are coming in. 
While the new picture gives us a glimpse of former Terran Emperor Philippa Georgiou in action, we also have new details about the movie, such as a character from Star Trek: The Next Generation appearing—all be it in a younger form. Star Trek: Section 31 is directed by Star Trek: Discovery veteran Olatunde Osunsanmi and written by Craig Sweeny.

Star Trek: Section 31 Has New & Familiar Faces

While Section 31 may be led by Michelle Yeoh’s character, Philippa Georgiou, the rest of the cast seems to be playing new characters—or so we thought. Variety’s article confirms that actress Kacey Rohl is playing young Rachel Garrett. Garrett’s character was introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation’s “Yesterday’s Enterprise” as the Captain of the USS Enterprise-C.  For long-time fans, this is a fantastic move. It will tell more of Garrett’s story in the Star Trek Universe.
The recently finished series of Star Trek: Picard referred to Captain Garrett. Season 3’s “The Next Generation” saw a statue of Garrett at the Starfleet Recruitment building on M’talas Prime. Sadly, it was destroyed in the episode. Actress Tricia O’Neil originally played Captain Rachel Garrett in her The Next Generation appearance. 
Speaking on Star Trek: Section 31, screenwriter Craig Sweeny said the following:

Apparently, Section 31 is sticking to some Star Trek core values. I know that is an odd phase when we talk about Section 31. Variety’s on-set reporter confirms that classic Star Trek aliens will appear in the movie. This could be anywhere from Vulcans and Andorians to even Romulans. However, this does depend on when the movie is set. A detail we’ll talk about in a moment.

What We Know About Star Trek: Section 31

The cast of Star Trek: Section 31 is vast! Alongside Michelle Yeoh, we have Omari Hardwick (Power), Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso), Sven Ruygrok (One Piece), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia) and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry).

When To Expect The Movie?

There is no hard date on when we should expect Star Trek: Section 31. We know it is expected to be released on Paramount+, the streaming service. This is because the movie is intended to be the first television film in the Star Trek franchise. In their article, Variety revealed that should the film prove successful, Michelle Yeoh says he is up for a sequel. 
It’s also worth noting that franchise boss Alex Kurtzman is already eyeing more opportunities for Star Trek TV movies, including a follow-up to Star Trek: Picard. The series concluded with its third and final season, which reunited the cast of The Next Generation. However, fans are desperate for more heroic adventures. Petitions and online demand for a “Star Trek: Legacy” series grow more demanding daily. 
It seems budget concerns are a big deal at the moment. Section 31 is repurposing sets from Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Kurtzman revealed to Variety that the Yeoh-led movie costs much less than you’d ever make a Star Trek movie for. We’ll need to wait and see. With the annual Star Trek fan day of “First Contact Day” taking place next week, on April 5th, it’s possible we might see a trailer for the movie. Time will tell!

We’ve got a new image thanks to Variety, who interviewed many of the Star Trek creatives. In addition, details about the upcoming Michelle Yeoh-led movie are coming in. 
While the new picture gives us a glimpse of former Terran Emperor Philippa Georgiou in action, we also have new details about the movie, such as a character from Star Trek: The Next Generation appearing—all be it in a younger form. Star Trek: Section 31 is directed by Star Trek: Discovery veteran Olatunde Osunsanmi and written by Craig Sweeny.

Star Trek: Section 31 Has New & Familiar Faces

While Section 31 may be led by Michelle Yeoh’s character, Philippa Georgiou, the rest of the cast seems to be playing new characters—or so we thought. Variety’s article confirms that actress Kacey Rohl is playing young Rachel Garrett. Garrett’s character was introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation’s “Yesterday’s Enterprise” as the Captain of the USS Enterprise-C.  For long-time fans, this is a fantastic move. It will tell more of Garrett’s story in the Star Trek Universe.
The recently finished series of Star Trek: Picard referred to Captain Garrett. Season 3’s “The Next Generation” saw a statue of Garrett at the Starfleet Recruitment building on M’talas Prime. Sadly, it was destroyed in the episode. Actress Tricia O’Neil originally played Captain Rachel Garrett in her The Next Generation appearance. 
Speaking on Star Trek: Section 31, screenwriter Craig Sweeny said the following:

Apparently, Section 31 is sticking to some Star Trek core values. I know that is an odd phase when we talk about Section 31. Variety’s on-set reporter confirms that classic Star Trek aliens will appear in the movie. This could be anywhere from Vulcans and Andorians to even Romulans. However, this does depend on when the movie is set. A detail we’ll talk about in a moment.

What We Know About Star Trek: Section 31

The cast of Star Trek: Section 31 is vast! Alongside Michelle Yeoh, we have Omari Hardwick (Power), Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso), Sven Ruygrok (One Piece), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia) and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry).

Well the pilot was fun. This is completely different than The Good Wife or The Good Fight. It’s like a police procedural, only backwards. Elsbeth is sent to ‘observe’ an NYC police department due to some previous bad issues but winds up being cleverer than any of the cops. The ep started with the crime, which we get to see in full - we know who the perp is and how it was done at the onset. Then the game is watching how Elsbeth unravels the case and catches the murderer. What makes it work is Elsbeth, who is still a delightfully quirky socially awkward yet unapologetic character. I’m here for this.

This film is exactly what you might imagine it is from the trailer. Another chosen one. Another mystical item. Another villain who wants to use it to destroy the world. Another band of legendary warriors. Another training scene. Another fight solved by heart. Another Disney death. But it has no soul. It’s just going through the cliches of this sort of film. Where it shines is SF. Chinatown looks like Chinatown with shots of the Confucian gate, the classic lampposts, the Columbus building, the transamerica pyramid (where the finale fight takes place).  Everything looks right and even in the right place, more or less. 

There’s also some nice details like the villainess’ magic parasol and the yaoguai, which are called exactly that and look like green glowing taotie (an ancient doglike demon). 

But they blow it with the dragon and the phoenix by connecting both to fire like their western counterparts. Chinese dragons oversea the ocean and rain. And the Chinese phoenix has nothing to do with fire. But that’s just me being picky.

This was quite good. I’m not a huge TMNT fan although I’ve followed along politely over the years. I’ve seen all the movies, bits of some of the tv series, and read a few of the comics. This stands out as my favorite so far.

The animation is novel. There are moments when the cgi characters were so 3d that I thought it was stop motion animation. It’s rich and colorful visually with these scribbley line effects that constantly remind you that it’s animation while adding a graffiti like feel. The writing is tight and fast, dropping rapid fire pop culture references and some genuinely funny dialog. It’s quick witty repartee that packs a lot of fast zingers in. 

It’s Jackie’s best voice acting work so far, and he’s done quite a few - I’ve documented them here. He gives Splinter a unique take that’s just so Jackie. The other voice actors nail it too, especially Maya Rudolph and Ice Cube. 

The action and pacing make for a fun ride and the kaiju ending was astonishingly lovecraftian. Did not expect that.

Yes, it’s the tmnt creation tale again, and it starts a whole new unique timeline, plus the end credits scene sets up a sequel (which I shall watch too if it happens).
